Being a main character does not exempt one from death.

Prime examples:

Goku from DBZ, Yusuke from Yu Yu Hakusho, even Ichigo died before in Bleach (or almost).

Dude, wtf calm down. It's a series and both can die, alright? Jiraiya & Kakashi died during the Pain Arc.. so point proven wrong. And you have trouble understanding Kishi and story-writing I see...
