Chapter 7 is finally here! I don't think it's one of the best, but I have a feeling Chapter 8 will be one of my best chapters yet! So look forward to that.
Chapter 7
“Here are your weapons,” Misha said as he handed over their weapons.
They truly were in better condition compared to before. She wasn't sure if Aki noticed, but they were completely new weapons. They had to get used to their new weapons through experience, especially with her bow. The weight difference was completely obvious; her new bow was heavier. She felt around the bow, and the wood it was made of was the reason. It felt very different compared to the wood of her old weapon, but that meant her bow might be stronger. The same went for Aki's sword; the new one was always better than the old.
“Thank you for taking care of us for these past two days, Misha,” Aki said with no emotion.
“I think you two should stay for a little bit longer. Your wounds aren't completely healed yet. Thanks to Frey running around her wound got worse.”
“Thank you for your concern, but we have no intention on staying here any longer,” Frey said, and then she walked away.
She heard Aki's footsteps behind her, as well as Kina's, and she asked, “So, what are your questions?” She knew he had questions after sleeping for a whole day. He started his questions with Reori, and she told him everything that she heard from Misha. She made sure to explain what hioe was, and why it was important. She also made it very clear that Kina was no enemy, and that attacking her was off-limits.
“I only have two more questions. Where were you whenever I woke up, and why have you been rude to Misha? He took care of us while we were injured,” he said.
“I was taking a walk, and I ended up getting lost. I don't know this area very well yet,” she replied to his first question. “As for your second question, I don't trust Misha. It's as simple as that.”
He was quiet afterward, and she took a look at him. He wasn't surprised at her answers, but it looked like he wasn't satisfied with them. 'I'm sorry for lying to you, but I promised Chief. We can't return to that village until there is peace.'
Frey didn't talk to Aki about Council yet. Whenever she returned, Misha wouldn't let them out of his sight. She found that weird, but Aki thought it was perfectly normal. She couldn't explain her suspicions without telling him that their village was gone! She had to find a way to explain how she found out about Council, and why she doubted Misha. She had to keep it a secret until she came up with a realistic idea of how that information got to her.
“Frey, why are we walking on a public path? We never walked on a public path before,” Aki said.
“The wind has been acting strange. I can't give the specific details I gave before. I think someone messed with the wind. To be honest, while I was walking the other day I saw a man. The wind in the whole area was focused on only him, in that location. That is impossible. He said he was with a group, but I didn't hear the name.”
“An ability to mess with the wind like that? There's only a few groups who could do that, but a majority of them are extinct,” he explained. “There's Quartet, Gire, and Council.”
That was her excuse! He brought it up, meaning she could ask questions about them. “Wow, Aki! I never heard of those three before. I'm actually shocked that you know that kind of information.”
“Father made me study, and those three were the 'Big Three.' I think only Council is the only one out of those three that still exists. They're known as the strongest force in the world, but they're a group of demons. They declare that they want peace, but we can't trust them. Besides this cat, of course.”
Frey laughed whenever he mentioned Kina. He still wasn't used to a demon being near them, so he probably felt out of place. 'That appears to be all he is willing to say about Council. But what happened to Quartet and Gire?'
It was silent afterward, until she felt the unfamiliar movement of the wind. It wasn't flowing normally, but the guy from the other day should have been gone. If he wasn't there then why was the wind abnormal? She didn't want to follow the wind, but her body moved on its own. She couldn't help but follow, as if it were instinct for her.
“Frey?” Aki called out.
“The wind is gathering up in one spot again,” she whispered.
She wanted to know what caused the abnormal flow, but at the same time she wanted to avoid the man from the other day. He threatened to kill her, but it seemed like he didn't want to. His expression changed after he learned of her amnesia; was he a clue to her past as well?
They were in the forest, and weren't far from their destination. She didn't run, otherwise Aki would have yelled at her because of her wound. There's a possibility of a battle, but she still went toward it. There was no way they would survive if they had to fight, but why did she continue to follow?
They reached a meadow filled with various of flowers. The sight was so beautiful, she couldn't help but smile. “This place seems perfect. Hey Aki, can we build a village near here instead of returning home? It's not rare we get to see sights like this.” That was when she saw a group of people in the middle of the meadow. Among the people in the middle was the stranger with the tuxedo. His words flowed back to her mind, “Amnes-! Get out of here, now. If you insist on staying then I will kill you.” She shouldn't have been in the area, and she just had to see him. “Aki, can we leave?”
Aki looked at her, and shook his head in disapproval. “We can't. That's Council, we might be able to get information about Reori.”
That was true, but the info wasn't worth losing their lives. She followed behind Aki, as they walked near Council. As they got near the stranger looked at them, and his eyes widened for a moment. She understood his shock, because she was supposed to be far away.
“Oh, we have some travelers. How may we help you?” The man in the middle said. He had short black hair that barely touched his ears. His eyes were red, blood red. The only thing she saw him wearing was a black cape with blood stains on it.
“We came to ask a question about Reori,” Aki stated.
“Oh, Reori! What would you like to know about a Council member?”
Frey looked at Aki, and his eyes were as wide as her own. It felt like her heart skipped a beat, and she stepped back. Reori was a member of Council? The strongest group in the world that wanted peace!? Fear overcame every feeling inside her, and she let out a high-pitched scream. Everything suddenly hurt, and she fell on the ground.
“Hey! What's wrong? Get a hold of yourself!” Aki exclaimed as he got on his knees.
“A-” she started, but then stopped herself.
The pain just increased, she instantly grabbed Aki's hand, and squeezed it tight. Nothing subsided the pain, and she regretted that she had to follow the breeze. If she were normal she wouldn't have gotten them almost killed countless times. If she had all her memories maybe she would have stopped them from getting into situations.
“Looks like she's in great pain. Maybe I can take her to a hut and get her checked on?” an all familiar voice said.
“That sounds like a great idea,” the guy in the middle of the group said.
“It is not a great idea! I won't let Reori lay a finger on her!” Aki yelled with anger in his voice.
“May I take her somewhere for a check then?” the stranger she met earlier asked. “Even though we haven't met, boy, you trust me more than Reori, correct?”
Aki nodded, and stepped away from her. 'No! Don't go, Aki!' She wished that she could shout it, but she didn't want to offend the people around her. It was Council, and it was best not to anger them. Kina was right next to her, and growled at everyone but the man who approached her. She felt someone lift her up, and was somewhat relieved as they were walking away from Reori. 'He would have killed me if this man didn't offer.'
Time went on, and the longer they walked the better she felt. “Um, I'm feeling better now. You don't have to carry me.”
He put her back on her feet, and she took another look at him. It was obvious he was a demon, and anger welled up inside her. He killed everyone in their village, and only allowed her to live! She wanted to ask him what he was planning, but if he killed her then Aki would go insane.
“Of course you're feeling better. I had to make a reason to get you away from them,” was all the demon said. “Why are you still here? Didn't I tell you to get away? It's obvious that there's tension between you and Reori, but Council is a different matter. When we go back you and your friend have to leave.
Frey nodded, and then they slowly started walking back to where Aki remained. She knew that she had to get him away from Reori, and the man who acted innocent next to her. If he knew that Aki was born in the village, would he kill him? She wondered what his name was, mainly so she knew who to kill after Reori.
'This is Silver. He's going to be with us from now on, so be nice!'
'What?' she asked herself. She looked at the man again, wondering if he was the reason for that sudden thought in her head. “Your name, is it Silver?”
Silver looked at her with a surprised look, and nodded. He didn't say anything else, and pointed as they were back in the flower field. Except it no longer looked like a flower field. Reori and the other demons were on one side, and Aki was on the other with sword in hand. There didn't seem to be any blood around the area, but what happened after they left?
“Leader, what is going on?” Silver asked.
The man with the blood-stained cape looked at him with a furious expression and said, “I thought I was very specific when I told you to destroy everyone from that village.”
They knew that Aki was from the village. Reori most likely told them that, to get Aki out of the way. 'Did they really expect Silver to hunt down travelers?'
“I did. There were no survivors, and I looked through every pile of rubble,” Silver explained.
Frey wouldn't allow them to have their way. They even ruined the beautiful flower field for their own reasons. Aki had to know about the village if a fight started, which meant this would be a fight to the death. She had to calm him down so they could escape. She grabbed her bow and loaded an arrow into it and aimed it at the group of demons. “That is enough already! You seemed so welcome to help us, now you're trying to kill my friend. Unless there's absolute proof that he's from the village you're talking about then there's no need for a fight!”
“We can tell if someone lies, and since they believed me I wasn't lying. Come to think of it, you weren't lying either when you said that statement,” Reori said with a confused expression, and then smirked. “Silver, that girl can be trouble if you give her freedom with a bow. It would be wise to restrain her.”
She felt a hand on the bow, and when she looked over Silver was there. “What-” He pulled the bow out of her grip, and ripped the quiver from her back. She watched as he threw them closer to the battle field, and then he pulled her into an embrace. “Let go of me! Why did you do that?”
“Just stay like this for a while.”
'Please, stay like this. It will be all right.'
That was similar to earlier, when a random thought told her Silver's name. The voice in her head the second time, that was Silver's! 'Are these parts of my memory?' She looked around, wondering where Kina was. She noticed the cat was gone, and wondered where the cat ran off to. That cat picked a bad time to suddenly disappear!
'Frey, we're counting on you! This will decide everything.'
'What decided everything?' she kept asking. It wasn't Silver's voice that time. Thoughts suddenly came into her mind, and tears fell down for a reason unknown to her. “Why is this happening now?”
