Definition of lost? He was out of chakra, and Temari had a better strategic plan than him and everything. The reason he threw in the towel was because just that, he stood no chance and was drained of all chakra, he said so himself. Temari won't fall for the same trick twice, and the guy was forced to run the hell away from Temari during the entire occasion. Temari Kiri Kiri Mai's the shit out of him.

Then what will he do? I'd say it's opinionated to say that Shikamaru will be able to do something when absolutely nothing suggests that he'll be able to. Temari already outsmarted him for starters.

Stopping her with 1 kage mane and holding her for 2 seconds before admitting he had literally 0 chakra left and that she would have been able to kill him afterwards isn't the same as "winning the fight vs the Part 2 variations of each character and surviving Kiri Kiri Mai in a serious to-kill situation". It was then duyring their Chunin Exam fight that it was established that Shikamaru is far from a front line fighter and is extremely shitty in 1 on 1 fights.

He's not countering Kiri Kiri Mai, it doesn't really matter how much prep he gets. The guy's extremely overrated.

Temari takes this because during her battle with Shikamaru during the Chunin Exams, Temari could only use her weakest wind attack called kamaitachi wind scythe no jutsu. Even then she was equal to Shikamaru.

During the Sasuke Retrieval Arc, Temari gained two new jutsus both of which were stronger and had a wider range than her basic one.

Now that she is a jounin, she gained two other attacks as well.

Those attacks have a very wide range and if Shikamaru had trouble avoiding the basic wind scythe then how does he dodge her newest jutsus especially since no one has yet to successfully dodge them?

Temari takes this mid difficulty.
