My next highest is Clannad. It's easily the best slice-of-life anime out there, capable of making people both cry and laugh their ass off.

Close second is Mushi-shi. It's completely standalone each episode, with the exception of the MC. It can either be the most boring or the most awesome anime ever, depending on your tastes. It's closer to the latter for me.

damn you right off the bat someone took my #1 manga. I'd have to say the hunter x hunter manga has been a really good read(I know people say watch the anime instead but the first episode of the new series didn't win me over, however the original series had a really good first episode) Another good manga though short, is Green Blood.

Anime, there's sooooo many in fact the big 3 excluding OP probably don't even break my top 10. There's Baccano!, Desert Punk, Trigun, Samurai Champloo, Kenichi again, Sengoku Basara, Basilisk, Ruroni Kenshin. Get Backers looks like it's going to be a good series based off the first episode as well as Nobunaga the fool and Nobunagun.
