Teikouryoku (Power of Resistance) | Akasha and Pekoms

So the next class... Teikouryoku! Another vital skill for a Medical Shinobi to master. Please make sure you read the chapter notes on this class, then proceed to present me with any questions you have about this skill, as well as a short summary of the material.

Before one can treat patients, one needs to protect himself. In real life, medical staff use gloves, masks, etc. But for a Medical Ninja in a battlefield, that's not practical. A Medical Ninja must always be aware of becoming a victim of whatever their patient is suffering from so he needs resistance to disease. With this skill you, as a Medical Ninja, increase your natural resistance to most natural diseases and toxins as well as most man made diseases and poisons, allowing you to threat an infected or poisoned patient with a higher safety. It has no effect on diseases or poisons already affecting you though. This skill, as all others, improves as you grow in power and affords greater resistance to a wider range of diseases and poisons and can become something that you don't even need to focus to achieve.

However, there are limits. This skill will essentially provide a boost to your natural resistance to disease, poison, toxins, acids, alkaline substances, etc but will only basically provide a "shield" of sorts around you. This shield can be overcome, like all others, by overpowering it. This essentially means that you cannot use this to defend from enemy offensive techniques in the midst of battle.

If you decide to and gain Poison Mastery, allowing you to make your own Custom Poison and mastery that branch of medical arts, this skill will allow you to become immune to regular none custom poisons and to your own poison.

How is it performed?

Now, to do this, you need to focus on your chakra at its core. This, when you look at the chakra circulatory system, is the central spiral network of chakra paths that surrounds your chakra source, normally located in your abdomen. When you focus on it, you need to visualise a growing yellow and warm aura, spreading from your core, outwards towards your skin. Its this focus and this will that will make your chakra passively aggressive towards pathogens and most natural toxins and infectious diseases. This chakra is invisible to the naked eye and doesn't go beyond the users skin. However, doujutsu might see the aura growing and expanding from the medical ninjas core.

Its this a technique?

Teikouryoku is not a technique, has no chakra cost or is otherwise performed in any way remotely similar to a Jutsu. It is a passive skill, much like diagnosis, taught in the Med-school, that gets stronger with time; the more you work with it, the better it will protect you against contagious diseases and poisons.

Are there different stages to its effectiveness?

Yes.

Medical Student: can maintain this skill active for a few minutes, enough to treat a single patient but needs effort and to will it to happen. Its impossible to keep active at all times.

Medical Ninja: the skill can be active for as long as he wishes and he doesn't need to dedicate any kind of mental command or focus for it to work.

Poison Master: Not only is the skill the same as the one for regular medical ninjas as it can protect the user from his own Custom Poisons and similar techniques (for example, toxic/poisonous/venomous elements) at all times.

• Teikouryoku is a type of passive ability which protects us from different pathogens and toxins to which we may come in contact with during treatment.
  
• It is only effective against pathogens and toxins with which we come in contact with after activating it.
  
• It can't be used as means of defense against offensive techniques.
  
• Teikouryoku potential increases with further mastery, with its peak being reached if one decides to expertise in poisons.

- this passive ability stems from the chakra network pathways located near the abdomen

- the kneaded abdominal chakra is essentially invisible to the naked eye, bar dōljutsu users
- the chakra utilized in this process isn't expended​

Questions:

- what is the precise limitation on the shielding effect? The description states that people possessing the highest degree of this particular skill become immune to many poisons, but it wouldn't be applicable if struck by a dokuton technique? Not to say that the skill would prevent the user from incurring general physical damage, but would the immunity to the actual poison component only be feasible outside of combat? If so, what is the actual meaning to acquiring immunities? Suppose a patient was struck by a S-rank dokuton technique, wouldn't the lingering poison be just as dangerous to the medical ninja, even if they happened to be a poison master?​

Very good, onto answering the questions.

So the resistance of a Poison Master, as stated in the Handbook, grants the Med-shinobi full immunity to a variety of things. The extent of this resistance is as follows; during battle, you can only protect yourself from 'free-form' poisons (ie, poisons applied to thrown kunai) and anything listed in the say the minor effects of a particular poison/venom. So you can't use this to block an s-rank dokuton jutsu, but you can prevent yourself being harmed with an accidental spike on a poisoned weapon.
As for the lingering poison, the 'shield' you have would more than aptly protect you as there is no actual jutsu being launched at you.

In battle, resistance won't protect you from poison jutsu. In treatment (could still be in the same battle, just after the jutsu has made contact with your patient), you have resistance/immunity (Medical level dependant) against the toxic ailment.

Sorry for the double post... but I should have given you the task in my last post ^^

That poison will at worst... give you read-blotchy skin for a few days... it'll be super itchy to the point of it being almost unbearable. So in this moment, I think would be a good time to work out how best to increase your resistance. How you go about altering your chakra to do so, is entirely up to yourselves. Generally visualisation of the qualities you think your chakra should take on, is enough to make gain the resistance you require.

Training #2​

Resisting a great urge to scratch his person, Koumei instead concentrated on the constituent of his chakra network system located near the abdominal region. In his endeavor, he visualized a warm yellowish chakra; in the process of expanding towards the dermis, the kneaded life energy would gradually mingle with the vestiges of Shinta-sensei's vial and function to counteract its contents. Given the brief duration for the resistance empowerment, Koumei strived to give it his utmost effort and thus, remained both as quiet and still as possible, in spite of increasingly blotchy skin.​ Sorry about the delay, I should be more available for replies now.​

Certainly, I was awestruck.

As quickly as the realization of the poison incoming stroke me I started focusing chakra within my body, the core of it to be exact. I didn't plan on being poisoned at this time, hence why all of my focus solely went on this. With the capabilities that I had I started to have an aura expand forth throughout my body to the very skin in aims of protecting me. The formed aura, would upon coming in contact with the sent vial insulate me from its effects and leaving me intact.
