So, there are no facts at all, but rather speculation on my part, and I wonder what others think about this.

Old man Oonoki said that any Shinobi nation would be foolish to challenge the Land of Iron's military might.

Now, from what we've seen, this doesn't make any sense. Sasuke (a Kage level Shinobi) easily defeated a large amount of Samurai (however, we can also assume that were no higher than Chuunin/Jonin level when compared to Shinobi). Certain high-level Samurai, like Mifune, showed how they were extremely dangerous, but only in one v one fights.

So, what could the Samurai possibly have that the Shinobi don't that makes them dangerous? What about technology?

Kishi himself said that technology would only get so far (no guns, or anything of the like), but the idea of Samurai having advanced technology when compared to the Shinobi nations doesn't seen that farfetched. I mean, since they can't/don't fire giant fireballs, maybe they see the value in creating a machine that can (i.e. a cannon).

Not quite sure what kind of technology they'd have (obviously no guns), but it seems like a viable theory.

Comments?

Sound's interesting. I would think they maybe at least had a catapult or maybe they were just bigger in number's or something.

Even a catapult seems rather simplistic to me. I was thinking maybe along the lines of a primitive tank, or something of the sort.

And the numbers was something I thought about too, but Hanzo said that Samurai were increasingly rare. You don't use the word rare for something that's semi-common. =/

I really doubt it, if a faction was capable of using rape technology it would be Amegakure. Too bad the Rinnegan's capacity to create not only jutsus but technology is apparently overlooked.

Well, why do you think it's like that? I mean, yes, the Rinnegan showed the capability for technology, but that was simply one person.

Not being focused on jutsu, the Samurai had an entire nation that they could theoretically devote to research.

I guess it is primitive. As for the other part. Even though samurai were rare. Maybe that have a standing army that can fight but aren't considered Samurai.
But good point.
Another thought I had is maybe they have good explosives.

Perhaps, but who knows. =/ From the way it was explained, I assume the Land of Iron has a smaller standing army than even the Land of Wind.

Hrm...maybe. But I think the Shinobi nations have acess to that as well (paper bombs, etc).

Perhaps the Samurai have access to some kind of flying machine? Or (if I'm understanding you right) a very powerful bomb?
