this is just hearsay but supposedly cristoph waltz was going to be the villain and they were waiting for his availability to open up and he kept postponing filming until he just gave up on the part

Yeah. They changed the character's name to Salazar to reflect Javier's Spanish heritage.

This franchise died to me after the 3rd movie. They changed the german voice-actor of Captain Jack Sparrow after movie 3, which ruined the main character for me. His german voice was perfect before they changed it. Can't enjoy the movies this way and yes, I know that I'm very picky when it comes to such details.
