Chapter One:
We are standing in the highest peak of the Deadlands… we are tired, we are hungry, we are thirsty and we are too weak to continue, right now we are about to face our greatest enemy to save our world, to save Drachia, but our story doesn’t begin here. My name is Vartex and it all began six years ago in my home which used to be Dragmus.
A messenger rode with all haste towards the castle and was nearing the gate.
OPEN THE GATE! – He screamed.
The guards recognized the rider and opened the heavy gates to the castle and the messenger kept up the speed he headed towards the main house in the center of the castle and reached the stairs. He quickly jumped off the horse and the horse dropped tired, the man ran towards the entrance and rushed to the King’s chamber.
MY LORD! – He cried.
The King was an old man with a long white beard and blue eyes, he wore a long white robe and a Silver crown with golden lines and precious stones, he also carried a beautiful sword with silver linings and it was shinning as if emanating a white aura.
What is it? – The King asked.
My lord… the southern city has been destroyed… - he responded.
The King noticed the man was missing an arm and the floor was covered with blood, he quickly rushed towards the injured man and covered his injury with a piece of his robe that he ripped, the messenger looked at the King’s eyes and the other guards called for help.
My lord… - said the man with tears in his eyes.
Calm down, you will be fine. Tell me, who is attacking us? – Asked the king.
I don’t know who it is… I just saw a black dragon. I was told that it was King Agnus, but the elders said it was the demon king! – He responded.
The man closed his eyes and fell on the king’s arms.
Set up all the defenses! Sound the Alarm! – The king ordered as he slowly put the messenger’s body down.
Bring me my armor, and call my commander. – He ordered as he walked towards his throne.
My sister Auriel and I were in the backyard of the castle continuing my training, then a messenger arrived on a horse and rushed towards my sister.
Commander! The king has summoned you, it is an emergency! – Said the messenger.
What is going on? – She asked.
We are under attack! The southern cities have been destroyed! – He responded.
Auriel quickly called her horse and mounted, she rushed towards the King, and I called my horse and followed her as fast as I could. When I arrived I noticed Auriel was already speaking with the king, she turned away and headed straight for the exit. I followed her to the tower of the entrance to the castle, and we waited. Moments later the sky began to turn dark and then a spiraling cloud formed right above us, my sister jumped off the tower and rushed to the center of the city and I followed. When I reached the center she was looking up and then from the clouds a black dragon came out and fired black flames at the castle. The castle was covered in flames and I could hear the screams of agony from the people inside it. The dragon landed in front of my sister and then its neck began to grown and then it threw up a black egg-like shell, it was covered in a black and hot liquid, then it flew away. My sister approached the egg and then it began to open, she readied her sword and I noticed a black creature coming out of the egg. It was human-like and it had red glaring eyes. Some soldiers came from behind the creature and they struck with their spears but the creature turned and with its eyes it covered the men in black flames and they were quickly consumed. The creature raised its arm and I noticed that a lot of arrows had been shot at the creature; the arrows began to disintegrate before they could reach it. Auriel rushed towards the black creature and struck with her sword, the creature simply raised its arm and stopped Auriel in mid air. She screamed in pain and her hair began to turn gray and her eyes began to lose color, I quickly drew my sword and struck the creature from behind. But I was also stopped in mid air and it looked at my with those red glaring eyes. My forehead began to burn and I screamed in agony, my sister drew a small dagger and stabbed the creature in its right eye. I was released and then she fell down too, the creature roared and grabbed Auriel from the neck and began to squeeze. I picked up my sword and stabbed the creature on its back, and then Auriel released herself and looked at me.
RUN VARTEX!! RUN!! – She screamed.
I hid behind some barrels and watched; the creature pulled out the sword and kicked my sister! Auriel quickly grabbed a spear and launched it towards the creature. Without any effort the spear was turned to dust and then the creature appeared right behind Auriel. I rushed towards her but the creature already had her from the hair, she screamed and as I took out my extra dagger I stabbed the creature in its left eye and then I was lifted in mid air again and then my forehead began to burn again, I screamed and Auriel grabbed the handle of my dagger which was still stuck on the creatures eye and twisted it, the creature roared and launched me outside of the city and I fell inside the river. I was unconscious for a few seconds and then I quickly swam for the surface. When I reached the surface I swam towards the ground and I noticed that the entire city was covered in flames and the dragon was flying right above it. I quickly rushed towards the city and tried to enter but the flames were too intense, all I could do was wait for the flames to cease. I waited as I cried, unable to help Auriel. I was too weak and tired that I lost consciousness, when I woke up in the morning the flames were already gone but the entire city was burned to the ground. I walked inside and I noticed lots of burned bodies, adults and children’s alike. I reached the center of the city and noticed that my sister’s body wasn’t there, so I kept searching around until I gave up a few hours later. I climbed one of the towers and noticed a small army nearing the city; I quickly got off and hid. The men entered the city and then the one in the front got off his horse and looked around. He took off his helmet and I saw his face, I noticed he had a scar on the left cheek and he had long red hair.
Hmm, I like this sight – He said.
A soldier looked around and approached the long-haired man.
Sir! Was it King Agnus who did this? – He asked.
Yes, I believe that our god has finally brought these heathens to justice! ALL HAIL KING AGNUS! – He shouted.
ALL HAIL! – They Shouted.
They turned around and left the city. I walked outside; I had already decided to search for my sister. I knew which way to head for the enemy empire, Agnis...
