Teachers playing favourites?

So I've noticed a constant thing with Teachers playing favorites with their pupils, what are everyone's opinions about this?

Examples:

Hiruzen favored Orochimaru

Kakashi favored Sasuke

Jiraiya favored Nagato

Asuma favored Shikamaru

Gai favored Lee

There are the most obvious to me.

No. Those students just needed special attantion, notice how they were more troubled than their other teammates, especially Nagato Lee and Orochimaru.

Well it was obvious the teacher would favor the one with the most potential.

Those people, not including Shika had no parents. Including Shika they are all geniuses, so of course the training plan will be different if those kids are above their teammates in ability. It's like when you sign up for an AP class.. but it happens automatically.

The only one who didn't give anyone else a lot of special attention is probably Kurenai, but she's as good as dead anyways. We never see her anymore.

Upon seeing the thread title I thought this was happening to the OP at school, unfair advantages been given to people in his class. Happened to me when I was at school..

Yeah lolz me too that's why I came, he should've included naruto in the title but guess it's my fault for not looking at the section

Shikamaru, Sasuke, and Orochimaru needed specific attention.

Kakashi was placed as team seven's leader for Naruto and Sasuke's sake, and he needed to sway Sasuke's decision from going to the dark side.

I still think Kakashi liked Naruto more even if he didn't pay him as much attention. Remember Naruto represented Obito, and old friend of his

Jiraiya favored nagato,minato, and naruto they were all different era's but i believe naruto was his favorite student. I mean come on the guy was the last thing on his mind before he died. Either that or he's a pedo :snick:

Orochimaru - Lost his parents and according to Jiraiya started to change after that (again, attention needed)
Sasuke - Uchiha clan massacre, only reason Kakashi was put as his captain... I don't know what you mean by they barely passed but whatevs

And I agree, Kakashi did not show much of a liking to Naruto in part 1, but throughout Shippuden I think his favourite switched. Personal opinion again.

Yeah, they were overestimated a bit.

But at the end of the day that was the plot Kishi set up. That's why we saw Kakashi in Naruto's room before he even met them, looking at his living conditions. I don't think we saw Asuma giving any preferential treatment to shikamaru until he passed, though. So the favourite thing still kind of makes sense... a bit.

Kakashi could like sasuke for many reasons.
The most liked are the most talented and to get the best results a sensei would need to give them abit more time in order for their growth
