Taylor Swift is being sued for $42 million over 'Shake It Off'.
The 25-year-old singer released the hit track last year but R&B artist Jesse Braham claims she took the lyrics from his 2013 song 'Haters Gone Hate'.
His song features the lyrics: "Haters gone hater, playas gone play... Watch out for them fakers, they'll fake you everyday."
And he claims the words were lifted and used in Taylor's song, in which she sings: "Cause the players gonna play, play, play, play, play/ And the haters gonna hate, hate, hate, hate, hate," and "And the fakers gonna fake, fake, fake, fake, fake."
According to New York Daily News, he is now embarking on a lawsuit worth $42 million and wants to be recognised on the track.
He said: "At first I was going to let it go, but this song is my song all the way.
"Her hook is the same hook as mine. If I didn't write the song 'Haters Gone Hate', there wouldn't be a song called 'Shake It Off'."
'Shake It Off' - which was the lead single from her multi-million selling album '1989' - was written by songwriters Max Martin and Shellback along with Taylor, who claims it's about being scrutinised by the public.
She previously explained: "I've had every part of my life dissected - my choices, my actions, my words, my body, my style and my music. When you live your life under that kind of scrutiny, you can either let it break you or you can get really good at dodging punches. Then when one lands, you know how to deal with it. And I guess the way that I deal with it, is to shake it off."
LOL was trending on facebook :lmao: this guy is a joke only wants money .

I have to hear his hook to know how similar the songs are. However, using cliches like "haters gonna hate / players gonna play / etc" in a song together is too generic to be copyrightable. There's no way he'll win based just on the lyrics. From what I recall, T-Swift's melodies in that song are also really simple (go figure).

The unfortunate thing is that the guy will probably get a settlement.
