I’m not trying to start a flame war with Frozen Jihadists. I felt like these were the two best CGI Disney princess movies. It was a difficult decision for me because both were so well done, but I broke down my opinion:
Story: Tangled. I prefer the Rapunzel adapation to the Snow Queen one. I felt the humor in Tangled was more cheeky. I also wasn’t a big fan of the “true love” sister ending in Frozen.
Music: Tangled. No hate please. I didn’t really like the pop songs from either. The classical score from Tangled was more whismical, where as Frozen was darker (point to Frozen). However, since the pop songs are a prevelant necessary evil, I preferred Tangled. “Mother knows best” was pretty good.
Animation: Tangled. They were both great, but the animation still blows me away every time I see Tangled. The textures just seemed better and the environments more grand. Elsa’s ice castle was cool, but overall I preferred Tangled.
Villian: Tangled. This was a close call. Hans was pretty vicious, but Mother Gothel was emotionally abusive and manipulative to a point where, in all honesty, Rapunzel would have been a lot more maladjusted than she presented in the movie.
Sidekick: Frozen. Pascal (the chamelion) was super awesome, but good grief how do you beat Olaf? Max the horse from Tangled and Sven the reindeer from Frozen were pretty similar.
Male Protagonist: Frozen. Kristoff seemed more genuine to me, where as Flynn was kind of cookie-cutter charming thief who gives up his ways generic. I wasn't blown away by either. Disney sucks at doing males, except Aladdin.
Female Protagonist: Frozen. Choosing between Anna and Rapunzel was hard. I go back to the villian choice. Rapunzel would have been considerably more damaged from years of isolation and abuse. Her character was “too perfect.” We got to see a little bit of her crazy co-dependency when she first left the tower though. Anna was pretty conflicted and real. Not a lot to say about her. I just liked her better.
Winner (for me): Tangled. Again, tough call. I like both. Tell me your favorite!
:hooray:
