TNJ works only on people that have doubts about their ways.

Sasuke is a good example for this situation. He didn't have any doubts about his resolve and therefor the only way for Naruto to TNJ him was to prove him wrong by beating him. And after Sasuke realized there is someone who has equal strength as he does. Only then he accepted to be reasoned with words.

The logical scale works like this:

- If you have less doubts about your way than your chat partner has about his. Then you will win if you keep on holding ground with your idea.

- If you are equals in terms of doubts in your ways you will have to go physical(not necessarily fighting him) or change the subject fast because coming with facts will not help. Your partner will have his share of facts with which he will try to contradict you. That only raises war.
