This is my first FF posted on NB. If people seem to enjoy it i will continue the story.
Behind her the desert spread as far as they eye could see and in front of her stood the forest signalling the border of the country. The trees peered over the small encampment like a city of bush and wood. The members of the attack force were beginning to pack up supplies and take down the tents that had been set up the night before. Chiyo stood motionless looking into the forest; she had a stern look on her face and appeared to be deep in thought. It had been two days since she had learned of her latest mission and she still hadn’t adapted to the notion of being at war. Her silence was broken as a hand touched on her shoulder from behind, breaking her line of though. She turned her head to look at the distraction. “Onnesan, the troops are nearly finished packing, we should make a move before the sun gets too high in the sky”. Chiyo looked up to the voice and was met by her younger brother’s soft eyes and smooth face. His brown hair peeked off the top of his head spiking as it came to the end; he wore the same garments as Chiyo, a Sunagakure flak jacket with a long sleeved brown top underneath. They both also had metal shoulder and upper arm guards matching the colour of the flak jacket. She nodded in agreement and the pair walked back into the camp.
By the end of the hour the camp had been cleared and packed into large dark backpacks which every member of the group wore. Chiyo signalled for the group to move off and enter the forest and within a couple of moments the area was again left barren and deserted.
The group made their way through the forest dodging past the trees and bushes in a snake like line. Every member in eye sight of the person in front. Chiyo led the forces from the front and her brother had taken the rear.
After some time into the journey a small woman sailed down through the air from a branch above the group and landed next to Chiyo. She wore the same Sunagakure standard war outfit that Chiyo wore but her sleeves enveloped over her hands and hung down to her knees. As the young woman landed Chiyo signalled with her hand for the line to stop and take a break. The forces shattered from the formation taking refugee from the journey on the floor.
The woman was a scout, one of twenty that had been making sure the area ahead, behind and to either side of the war force was clear. “Moe-Chan, what is it?” Chiyo immediately challenged the girl on her reasons why she had returned. “Chiyo-Sama…. there are traps ahead… a large number of them.” Moe panted out as she tried to control and stabilized her breathing, but Chiyo gave her no chance. Chiyo suddenly darts backwards into the ranks of the relaxing task force, hurrying Moe along with her. As she moved through the convoy of people, she collected certain individuals and ordered them to follow her. Chiyo finally got to the rear were her brother was standing by the stump of a fallen tree, he had his back to her as she approached, looking out for signs of movements in the forest they had just moved through.
“Ebizo” Chiyo demanded as she got closer, he seemed absent minded and didn’t hear her. She raged out against him, this time louder and clearer. “Otoutosan.” Her voice rang on the humid air around them. Ebizo snapped out of his concentrated gaze into the blurred forest and turned his body to face her. As she approached he stumbled forward to greet her and her entourage.
“We have reports of an area of traps up ahead. I want you to remain here with the main body of the force. I’m going to take a small group of us to the area to assess the situation and plan our next move”. She informed him.
“Do you think there if a camp established in the area?” Ebizo replied to the information she provided. Chiyo thought about this has the words left him mouth. This was also her initial thought, but could an enemy be so close to the border of the Wind country so soon? They had only travelled half a day since they passed the border, this truly would be a bad omen for the forces of Sunagakure and the village itself.
“That is what I intend to find out. I will take Moe-chan, Sho-san and Takumi-kun with me. Set up a perimeter around this area and keep your guard up. We can’t afford to lose any Shinobi this soon into the campaign”.
Ebizo looked at the group of three Chiyo had brought with her. He knew Moe and Sho quite well. Moe was a good scout who, despite her age, had proven her worth countless times in missions with the Siblings and Sho was renowned within the ranks of the Shinobi of Sunagakure as a great sensory type Shinobi and had helped establish Sunagakure’s defences since the First World War. His age brought knowledge and wisdom that was rare amongst the youngsters. But Ebizo had little knowledge on the third of Chiyo’s three man cell. Takumi looked young with pale peachy coloured hair. He was the same size as Moe, which was strange for a male and he looked inexperienced and fresh.
He walked back with the four to the front of the trail of Shinobi and watched as Chiyo, Moe, Sho and Takumi leaped up into the canopy above him and soared off from branch to branch.
Chiyo lead the group from the front. She had dumped her backpack as had the others and had exchanged the placement of the backpack with a series of scrolls strapped together with bandages. Moe travelled next to Chiyo directing her to the coordinates of the destination and behind them Sho and Takumi travelled side by side. The four-sum stopped on a long strong branch towards the bottom of a tree when Moe signalled to Chiyo that this was the area. Chiyo quickly observed the location, looking for signs of traps and at first it wasn’t obvious. The traps had clearly been set by skilled and trained Shinobi and would have been easily over looked by those who didn’t seek them.
Before Chiyo could make an order the group were surrounded by smoke and dust. A trap had been set off and an explosion had bellowed up from below them. The group all made moves, going in different directions, Sho jumped up to the branches above the group and used his sensor abilities to establish who set off the trap. Moe and Chiyo both simply jumped back to a parallel branch behind them.
The smoke began to drift off and settle and Chiyo looked to Moe then up to Sho. Her eyes darted around the area to find Takumi. As she looked up across to the opposite side of the clearing made by the explosion and she had located him.
Takumi’s limp body hung from the grip of a Shinobi’s arm with a Kunai pressed to his neck. The Shinobi wore grey armour similar to that of the Sunagakure war armour that Chiyo and the others wore. He was surrounded by his fellow shinobi, all men, tall and white. They stood on the ground facing her.
The group of enemies suddenly started to shuffle, the group split in half to allow someone to pass through their ranks. From this split stepped a blonde young woman. Her hair tied into two low ponytails which trailed in the gentle blow of the wind behind her. She wore the same as the other members of her group but had a large scroll attached to her lower back area.
“Who are you?” declared Chiyo as she slowly unclipped the scroll pack on her back, allowing it to loosely fall towards the ground. As it sailed down Chiyo grabbed hold of the top strap and swung it round to her front, crouching low on the branch as she did so.
“I’m Tsunade of Konoha.” The young girl said with a smile on her face, returning Chiyo’s cold stare.
