Hard work becomes talent.
But the more talent you have the better, you can't rely on hard work.
You need parents that take care of you as a baby, that's talent.
If not then you are stuck to forever not fit in and maybe you will get to work as a janitor or something.

The difference in talent isn't as drastic in life as it is in Naruto though. There's little worth in understanding things a bit quicker than the next guy if you're just going to slack the moment the next subject appears. Without hard work, your tasks would eventually have to pile up? No one's clearing that pile without hard work.
