I've seen people throughout the forums state that Tailed Beasts can never really be killed, as they'll just regenerate.
However, as far as my knowledge goes, we've only seen this stated when reffering to a Tailed Beast within a Jinchuriki. Whenever their host dies, the Tailed Beast is reformed at a later date in another area. However, this is only because the Tailed Beast itself was never killed. The host was killed, and therefore the Seal no longer exists, meaning the Tailed Beast can reform elsewhere- it's simply the Tailed Beast leaking from the seal it was in.
On the flip side, we have seen that Tailed Beasts can sustain damage while not in a Jinchuriki.
The Eight-Tails- while not in a Jinchuriki- sustained an injury to its horn in a battle with the 3rd Raikage. The Eight Tails did not regenerate this horn.
Another instance is when Sasuke Amaterasued the Juubi. Many people, including Sasuke and Naruto, were confident that Amaterasu would burn down the Juubi, and kill it for good. Naruto even expressed concern for the Tailed Beasts within. If the Tailed Beasts would have regenerated after being burnt, why would Naruto be concerned about their lives? And don't say Naruto isn't wise on the subject, he has an actual Tailed Beast inside of him that can say, "oh don't worry they'll just regenerate."
So, as seen from Manga evidence, Tailed Beasts can be killed when not sealed inside a Jinchuriki.
Unless someone can provide me a scan that specifically states that Tailed Beasts in heneral are not able to be killed? As in, when they arn't inside Jinchuriki? That isn't a challenge, I just really haven't seen a scan of that and I'm curious if anyone knows of one.
