Tailed Beast Death

Can the tailed beasts die?
I know if the jinchurikis die that the bijuu is just released from the seal. But what if they actually die? do they just disappear?
And if they can die why doesn't naruto just kill one to stop the Eye of the Moon Plan? he could kill a worthless one like the Shukaku and then tobi's plan would be ruined and the world would be saved.:shrug:

They can't die by ages ( I called them Aedra)
But they can be killed by Sage of the Six Paths or Madara Uchiha
