Hello.
In this thread I would like to go over some of the symbolism concerning the "Third Eye."
Also, in this thread I go through the explanations of each first then compare its relevance more-so towards the end. This thread took quite some time to make, but nonetheless Enjoy!

So firstly let's see what I'm referring to literally:
Kaguya's Third Eye:

Now it's interesting to note that Hagoromo has a symbol acting as his "Third Eye."

Each eye is a representation of their morale/character.
But what more so intrigues me is some of the representations from religious/mythical points of views.
Relation to Hinduism:
Within Hinduism- The Third eye can represent 2 things:
  • Chakra
  • Ajna (more specifically, the "Sixth Chakra")
Explanation of Ajna:
Ajna means to 'command' or 'summon'
This chakra is supposed to be located literally around your eyebrow/forehead.

But what intrigues me is its proclaimed Spiritual appearance:

In other word:
  • The Moon is the center of the Petal
  • But the left and right miniscule Petals can represent Shiva and Shakti.
  • OR the petals represent the Sun versus the Moon. (Just like Indra v. Ashura)

  • Also, the sensation of dreaming is also linked with Ajna.

Shiva Explanation:
He is considered the "Destroyer." Action is key in order.
More importantly, he is portrayed with several important aspects/relations:
  • Third Eye on Forehead
  • Snake serving as necklace
  • Crescent Moon
  • Trishula (basically an Indian Trident, can relate with Lightning with Rudra)
Most Importantly, he shares many similarities with Rudra.
Not on this but he is considered by some to be the continuation of the god Indra.
Basically, this God has many similarities with Sasuke Uchiha as well. (Will enhance a bit later)

Here is a deva with a third eye for fun:

Basically Shiva is another representation of Sasuke.
  • The Trishula represents Sasuke's take action philosophy and also his eccentric lightning chakra nature.
  • The Moon serves as the Indra reincarnation/idea parallel, just as Naruto is the Sun which mimics the brothers
  • The Snake resembles his original summonings as well as his acquaintanceship with Orochimaru.
  • He's already desired to destroy the Bijuu on an occasion:

  • He also wanted to "delete"/destroy the past, or Naruto.

Here is some info. from my previous threads regarding this if you want to take a look:
Hello.
In this thread I wish to point out some symbolism, and there's a little repeat but there is also new stuff as well.

So in the latest chapter, we saw 2 statues standing behind each Naruto and Sasuke.

In a previous thread, I mentioned how Sasuke resembles the Indra god of lightning.

But after a second inspection, I realize that Naruto and Sasuke both resemble something more in regards with these statues.

Recalling, these 2 statues reminded me of the 2 we saw during Itachi's flashback:

But in actuality, for both pictures there are statues of Asuras presents.
In fact, this image of an Asura capitalizes this uncanny resemblance.
Red Asura:

Now recaping, Asuras in buddhism are related with the "Hungry Ghost Realm", meaning they seek power.
But in Hinduism, Asuras are powerful warriors who battle constant with Devas, or the "God Realms."
It is also important to note that some Asuras are one with nature, or become unified with it.

Now look at again at the one on the right, it is wielding 3 important weapons that each represent the conflicting philosophies and unity.
  1. A Ring Staff
  2. A Trident Spear
  3. Another Staff
In his right hand, he wields a Ring staff similar to Juubito's/Hagoromos,or as other's have correlated it with the "Sun."
Now take another glance at the god behind Naruto, well it just so happens this is a symbolization for the Hindu God Agni.

Agni
Agni is considered one of the most supreme gods, together he is apart of the leading Asuras with another named Rudra.
Agni is the God Fire, and his heads can symbolize passion, will, youth, and life.
There are three channels that coincide with Agni's energy.
  • Sun
  • Fire
  • Nature

Naruto is already known for his will of fire.
Naruto also resembles Ashura, who was shown with the Sun.
Naruto is a master of nature as it is one of his powerful assets.

In his left hand, he wields a Trident Spear resembling the Vajra lightning spear held by Rudra.

Rudra
Rudra symbolizes his three fundamental powers:
  • kriya(action)
  • jnana(knowledge)
But Rudra is actually also another god of Storms/Lightning.
The Trident he wields is a powerful Vajra Spear helping him to use Lightning, even tame it.
Rudra is called "the archer" and the arrow is an essential attribute of Rudra.
The trident, or the spear with three prongs, is one of the accessories.

Sasuke also has tamed lightning and is an excellent Lightning style user.

Not only this but he is also an excellent archer, with his "bows" being Enton.

Do these Gods sound like 2 certain someones to you?
Yes, Naruto and Sasuke.
Now here is the thing, Agni and Rudra are partners as part of the Supremes of Asuras:
Just like how Naruto and Sasuke are the new leaders chosen by the Rikudo.
You must be registered for see images

The next thing is that, Agni and Rudra fought together against Devas.
Naruto and Sasuke are about to team up and also fight the "Deva", Madara Uchiha.
(Similar happened against Obito)

Now to summarize Asura statue shown in Itachi:
  • The Right hand with the Ring Staff symbolizes Naruto's philosophy
  • The Ring Staff shows Naruto's side, how strong will and life with cooperation is the key.
  • The Trident spear represents Sasuke's side
  • How he will take action and isn't afraid to kill to get his goal.
  • The base Staff resembles the "bridge" or unity for Naruto and Sasuke to cooperate.
Thanks for Reading, Vega

Buddhist Relation:
The Third eye relates primarily to "enlightenment."
It also is a sign of attaining both mental and physical peace.
It has clairvoyance
  • 1: the power or faculty of discerning objects not present to the senses
  • 2: ability to perceive matters beyond the range of ordinary perception
Ability to perceive Chakras and Auras
And quite notably, precognition and out-of body experiences.
[NOTE: Precognition is referring to actual spiritual insight, or sometimes future sight, while the latter above means spiritual travel.]
Now you mean be wondering my point is:
Basically Kaguya's third eye represented the Hindu relation of the eye while Hagoromo was the Buddhist Version.

Why?
Kaguya:
Just like the Hindu relations, Kaguya's eye was filled with Dream power.
But Kaguya's eye symbolized her corruption for power.
The Ajna chakra was related to the dreams, although she misused that power.
It relates since she casted the people within the Infinite Tsukuyomi or "Dream World", manipulating the power relating with the Ajna. (Bottom Right)

While:
Hagoromo is already related to being the Buddha, as the one who established peace.
You must be registered for see images
Hagoromo became merely remants of traveling Chakra/spiritual priest. He became the manifestation of Out-of-body/Spiritual travels throughout time.[Middle of page, lower right panel]
You must be registered for see images
Hagoromo viewed Ashura's chakra, which was his Buddhist "precognition" as he sensed Ashuras presence.
You must be registered for see images
It changed with the Uchiha and this is the influence of their Sharingan Precognition.
You must be registered for see images
This was another symbolism showing Indra's will for war against his brother and didn't equate to the peaceful aspect of Hagoromo. (Similar to the application of Ninshuu and Ninjutsu)

General Summary:
  • Kaguya's third eye symbolizes her corruption of power and misuage of the Hinduistic Third Eye relations.
  • Hagoromo's "Third Eye" symbolizes his enlightenment and spiritual elements from the Buddhist Third Eye concepts.
  • Sasuke can relate with Shiva with their destroy/take-action personality.
Thank you, Vega

That was... rather well detailed, but i just want to say that this is merely ur speculation and since Kishi isn't necessarily bound to following Hindu he could always switch it up(like he's using Shinto mythology too), regardless it was a good read.

To be honest, I dislike these kinds of threads. Why? They are really awesome and provide a lot of facts but they don't arrive to any conclusions for example like what you think Sasuke's new power will be. Great work and I commend your efforts but please arrive at a conclusion next time otherwise all you are doing is just telling us something we already know. This isn't supposed to be a spiteful comment but rather constructive criticism. :3

I'd like to add a little something.

In obitio's war mask, his left Tomoe has sharingan while his right Tomoe has rennigan. His third Tomoe, located on the forehead is empty however. Obito lacks a third eye.

And in Taoism, it is said that the third eye can perform things such chakra and auras, precognition, and insight. And that matches the Byakugan very well.

Great job.
Thanks :)

Yea true, I just provided my thoughts on to why each character resembles some concept, but glad you enjoyed it.

Good Job +rep. But seriously how long did this take you
Thanks :) It took quite some time for this thread, around an hour or a bit more I'd say.

Its fine, I appreciate constructive criticism.
My aim was to provide my insight on why I feel these two characters resembled certain aspects from two separate Ideologies, and my conclusion was something generally understood but the route I took to show it was the main ensemble. Like I've seen many threads on things like Naruto will lead peace/etc. but different approaches to how it is done. I have some insight for the Sasuke thing in a previous thread, but usually avoid it since it always sprouts the "wank thread" conspirators. But yeah thanks for reading it and the suggestions.
