I see you like to attempt to analyze stuff beyond what is there. I'll give one too, I see you have Orochimaru in both your signature and your avatar, and are currently defending Orochimaru in an Itachi thread because Orochimaru just so happened to be one of the two that Itachi chose to seal, otherwise I think you'd say the opposite. Look I get it.. Orochimaru is cool but you can't just ignore facts here (Well I guess you can since you're currently doing just that) but what we can take from that manga chapter is Orochimaru was busy bragging about his victory before anything even happened, so busy in fact he had his eyes on Itachi the whole time to make a point, yet somehow he magically got cut off mid sentence with a surprised look on his face which indicates he had no clue what had just happened, otherwise he'd have looked at the sword coming at him and laughed before it hit him, not have a surprised look that he got stabbed and then proceed to laugh that he got stabbed, that doesn't add up, if he knew it was coming at him and thought it wouldn't hurt him, he'd have laughed before it even stabbed him and then continued to laugh in the next image when it was shown he was stabbed, he wouldn't give the expression "What the... did I just.. get... stabbed before I could finish my next word in the sentence?" Which is exactly what he did, so he did not see it coming, and could not avoid it if he wanted to since he didn't know it was going to stab him.
Simple.
*sighs* my avatar and sig have nothing to to with this and I'm over analyzing anything. What I stated was pure facts about character and reasons why/how the incident (could have) occurred. Oro was looking at Itachi in a big ass snakes mouth, not worrying about what Itachi could have thrown at him as he was confident the sword wouldnt have done nt to him. Obviously as he came out the snake he noticed the sword and knew Itachi wasnt about all the talking, but that wasnt a factor thus a simple sword would have had no effect on him. In your opinion the reaction that was " "What the... did I just.. get... stabbed before I could finish my next word in the sentence?" to me it was "wft this dude doing" and he was in the middle of a sentence, sure he was focusing on that. We havent seen that happen before, someone being caught off guard regardeless of the speed of the attack simply because that wasnt their main focus
In Nagato's case, dude couldnt move and was blinded by a gust of dirt, thus he couldnt do anything if he wanted to about the sword coming.
Overall, like I said the sword could be fast or slow but those two incidents cant be the factor to determine that IMO regardless of what u say.
