I saw a thread stating amaterasu isn't a projectile attack, but one that is produced directly on its target. By that logic, amaterasu ought to be more faster if the user can focus on his target. However, against truly fast people whom even sharingan has difficulty keeping up with, its next to useless as it can't focus properly on the target (Unless his target decides to stand still and sing Justin Beiber rocks)

If that were true, then Amaterasu wouldn't had been a fireball chasing behind him. Sasuke would had dodged, and it would had ignited whatever was behind Sasuke.

Same thing for Ei. He moved out of the way and Amaterasu, in the form of a fireball, struck the samurai behind him with momentum and force. If it just ignited whatever the user looks at, then the samurai would had just suddenly been on fire.

Also, you don't dodge something that's instant. Let me just lite your shirt on fire, and then I want you to dodge your burning shirt.
