What he did undestand was that the masked man was screaming and so he used his already existed FTG formula. He didn't understand it was Obito till after he caught. Can't you see the suprise on his face?

This is a plot hole. As a sensor-type ninja, Minato supposedly had to recognize the masked man back then... maybe it's due hashirama cells.

Nonetheless, the face wasn't enough... I guess it was Obito calling him "sensei".

i disagree i am not completly sure that minato yet realizes it was him. Sure minato has a ftg on him HOWEVER IT NEVER DISSAPEARS. That being said its only common knowledge that he would mark his team he was training? Meaning until obito says yes it was me minato doesn't know 150%

So he used his FTG to teleport to him, and upon slashing him with his kunai, he realized that the masked man's true identity was his own pupil, Obito. That's why he was surprised.

yeah, the more i read these comments and go back and look thru the manga, i would have to agree that minato realized he was the masked man, teleported...slash....oh shit its my pupil reaction and then yeah. now im curious to see minato's reaction now that he realizes obito pretty much killed kushina and left naruto parentless
