It was said in this chapter that they cannot keep reiatsu from being produced, but what about with Rukia back in Agent of the Shinigami arc. It was stated that her gigai stopped her from having reiatsu.

So there is a way afterall. So why didn't they put aizen in that gigai? (if you can force someone into a gigai) but even if you cant it would seem to me that it was worth mentioning or exploring as a way to cut off aizens reiatsu. There is also the matter of zarakis eyepatch which absorbs his energy. Perhaps this is what is being used to seal aizen but it doesn't seem like it keeps zarakis reiatsu close to him like it does aizen. Zarakis eyepatch seems to completely absorb it. Where as Aizens seems more like to compress it which is why you cant touch him. (maybe his reiatsu is being consumed but he still has that much excess similar to how zaraki still has high reiatsu with his eyepatch on but in aizens case it is just scaled up.) I also dont think it is like zarakis eyepatch because zarakis reiatsu doesn't have a range like aizens does now.

So whats the deal here retcon? or what?

A Gigai is an artificial body that is utilised by Shinigami to interact with humans and remain in the world of the living. There is a difference between suppressing it and stopping it from being made altogether. The Gigai that Rukia was in was constantly causing her Reiatsu to deteriorate faster than her body could create it. That would eventually cause her to lose her spiritual powers, since the production of Reiatsu is a by-product of the body's Reiryoku, which is also being suppressed presumably by the Gigai.

Aizen's case is completely different. Aizen's Reiatsu would probably destroy the Gigai outright. And even if he did get into the Gigai without destroying it, it wouldn't do much to suppress his Reiatsu, if it was able to do anything to him in the first place. Why would SS place Aizen in a Gigai instead of a device they developed which is capable of overpowering even his Reiatsu?

because the gigai doesnt surpress reiatsu but stops it from being produced. That seems more useful to me and even if it didn't work, the latest chapter still said that reiatsu production cant be stopped even though it was once said it can be. Which is what my point really is.
