Season Five
Season Five is rumored to be the last season due to Eric Kripke's statements over the years that he has planned for the show to run for five seasons. Jensen Ackles has mentioned in an interview that at the time Season 4 would be the last but due to higher ratings they were signed on for a subsequent season. Despite this, Jared and Jensen have contracts for a Season 6, if the CW picks up the show for another season. The season pinpoints on Lucifer and the signs of the upcoming Apocalypse.[3] The CW has since announced it's premiere schedule, setting Season five of Supernatural for release on September 10th. [4]

27 July 2009 5:46 AM, PDT | From Digitalspy | See recent digitalspy news

Supernatural creator Eric Kripke has spoken out about rumours that the show might secure a sixth season, insisting that he never thought it would even run to five. The executive producer had previously claimed that he had a "five-year plan" for the CW drama, although it was recently reported that stars Jensen Ackles (Dean Winchester) and Jared Padalecki (Sam Winchester) were contracted for a sixth series. Speaking to E! News at last week's Comic-Con, he said: "There was a five-year plan and we are in the fifth year of that story. This is the last chapter of this volume and we plan on telling it well and climactically, but we are certainly also batting around ideas and there's no reason there can't be another volume. "There's no reason another new epic story can't begin. We're (more)

Two things that "Supernatural" will offer a lot in the fifth season are the re-appearance of old faces and a bunch of new but interesting characters. During the show's panel at San Diego Comic Con, producers Eric Kripke and Sera Gamble, supported also by screenwriter Ben Edlund, explained that mythological creatures from the bible and even God himself may come at some point of the show.

Since the new season will jump on the apocalypse wagon, The Four Horsemen of Apocalypse is part of the plan. Kripke joked that these people will be modernized, saying "The Four Horsemen are not going to be riding horses but color coordinated muscle cars. Why ride a horse when you can be in a Mustang?"

About the God's part, Gamble explained that they are "approaching it cautiously". She said, "There is a lot of doubt because a lot of characters are angry at God
