Super Saiyan 4?

When I used to watch DBGT, I remember that vegeta was incabable of Super Saiyan 3, so bulma created a machine that would allow vegeta to go SS4.

What I want to know is, can vegeta go ss4 by himself, or does he need the machine every time?

i think it does, because when they were fighting omega shenron and vegeta transformation wore of he couldn't transform again even if he wanted

Vegeta's able to turn SSJ4 by himself, it's just that he din't have his tail, so he needed the machine to sprout it back and turn him into the giant ape, he then proceeded to be a boss and enter SSJ4. Although I have to say that Goku's transformation was more epic.

yeah but when his transformaton wore out he couldn't do it anymore because the tail was like a fake one produced by the machine, but maybe if he had a real tail he could'v e turned ssj4 by himself
