summonings determined by what ?

Since naruto started we have seen shinobi with different. Summonings animal, weapons, gates,statues,dead people. I wonder what determines what animal or object one is able to summon. Is it chakra? Or having a similar spirit so to speak as the summon? I remember ibiki summoning the iron maiden and ten ten a ninja tool. So what do you think?

True but not just anybody can sign contract with animals for example they have to accept you.

I believe it's formed by the signing of a contract but the only way the bond will be made is if the two parties have similar personalities | traits | influences.

the real question is how do u go about signing a contract... naruto was lucky and found jiraiya and has already formed a contract with toads in which case he could pass it on to naruto aswell

but for people like sasuke who got rid of the snakes and just randomly appeared with a hawk summoning is quite a mystery to me ... how did he go about getting an animal summoning which he had no contact with at all from our point of view :|

i think summonings should have been explained a bit more early on in the show in part 1


EDIT: i think tentens tool summoning are special ... its just a seal which she uses to summon her tools which are in storage imo... but who knows

Hmmm I'm sure they will explain in the anime which probably won't be canon lol

Yeah i'm sorry i left that out. Actually you can summon, accepted or not. If the user isn't accepted then it's most likely that the summoned won't cooperate.

not entirely true... think or manda's and oro's case... manda wasnt always willing.. oro sort of had to jump through hoops to get it to do things.. if u have the blood contract then u can summon them... whether they listen to u or not is a different story

Did somebody pass down his iron maiden summon? Does the same rules apply to objects?

not entirely true... think or manda's and oro's case... manda wasnt always willing.. oro sort of had to jump through hoops to get it to do things.. if u have the blood contract then u can summon them... whether they listen to u or not is a different story

That makes sense with animal summons. But what about object summons?
