Summoning Animals and Chakra.

According to the story, humans lacked the ability to produce chakra prior to kaguya eating the shinju's fruit and later hogoromo distributing it to humans. But how did the summoning animals acquire chakra?

-Did summoning animals also consume the shinju's fruit?
-Did they always posses chakra.
-Or did hogoromo distribute chakra to them as well.

I believe chakra have always been there, since the natural energy can be used in sage mode. And the energy is all around the world, even before Kaguya was there, I believe
