What does mecha naruto and itachi's susano have to do with Sumire? she's a side character in boruto anime that will remain in it all the time till the anime finishes . she's CANON DEAL WITH IT

Kishimoto himself created Itachi's and Shisuis perfect Susanoo. Your not getting more cannon than that.

What backstory? Could someone summarize for those who don't follow it any longer?

Sumire is that purple haired girl behind Mitsuki in the pic OP provided. During the anume's Ghost Arc, she is Boruto's classmate (class ren they refer to her as)and secretly the main villain at the end of the arc.

She was raised by her dad, a former member of ANBU Root, for a bit after her mom died. Her dad raised her to destroy the Leaf and sealed a special summon inside her that Root had locked away during Danzo's reign.

She put in this kind and somewhat shy persona throuout the arc only to be revealed as the villain all along. She fights Boruto and mainly Mitsuki head to head and holds her own.

This is why people like her and probably why SP and the manga creators made her canon
