Sure Suigetsu can liquefy himself but he can't do so indefinitely. Also disagree with him getting through Gaara's sand by becoming intangible. I think even though Gaara is overrated because people think he rivals Sasuke, Hashirama, Itachi and Jiraiya, someone of Suigetsu's level would get owned horribly even if he has good counters to Gaara's abilities but I don't think he does.A great underestimation of Suigetsu's abilities, normally i would agree with you on this verdict but unfortunately Suigetsu is a Hozuki. Every time he's about to be captured/buried, what stops him from liquefying himself ?
The same goes for him melting through Gaara's Ultimate Sand Defense and attacking from there with the tech he exhibited at the Five Kage Summit (attempting to suffocate the person by liquefying into a sphere over their head).
You make a good point about Suigetsu managing to get suffocated but Gaara has many options to avoid such a scenario. He could make sand clones or use flight to prevent this from happening. Also Suigetsu's sword is kind of useless here because he'll get disarmed pretty easily.
Once Suigetsu gets buried, Gaara can just leave him there until he runs out of oxygen or seal him via sand pyramid. I also don't agree with Suigetsu being able to seep through sand because Gaara's sand is very dense and won't have any room for Suigetsu to go through.
