i dislike DBZ very overthetop, and not really smart anime but yeah i think i would recommend it for big fights that last for months.

Oh i remember now, YOU should definetly watch Yu YU Hakusho, its one of the greatest animes ever made ask anyone on NB - and its exactly like you wanted, i wont spoil it but he has Dark Demonic powers hidden inside and it has some of the most incredible fights and tournemants.

Dragon ball Z clearly.

But Fairy tail has some gr8 too, but also History's strongest disciple Kenichi is pretty awesome with fighting scenes. Even Claymore is quite brutal for recommendation. Also full metal aclhemist, which is not an ongoing anime, so it might be nice to get closure, with a huge fight as the end.
