Sub is like switching with a transformation. That is why Sakura did not actually take damage from the attack, she wasn't actually hit.

Yes it can and bee has already proved it, besides why wouldn't it work? amateratsu isn't that special to the point where it can't be substituted out of.

I think subbing before the amaterasu actually hits would do the trick, subbing during the burning process would be....not as fun

His is special. He actually sheds his own skin, replacing it with a new, healed body, like a snake except the process is much faster.

Same for Bee. He moved his real body inside the chakra body of the Hachibi to a part not on fire.
