Training probably increased durability. However, this is nowhere near the greatest inconsistency. One of the biggest ones is Itachi's personality. He spared Sasuke since he was an innocent child with no knowledge of the coup. However, he told Sasuke to kill his best friend. No mater who that poor person would be. He probably knew it would be an innocent person.
