Kamui is nothing but interdimensional rift, the worm hole is formed due to the space flow from one dimension to another just like a water drains from one place to another and forms it.

And it's also possible that contact is not required, since it was stated to need the same physical sensation, not same contact.

Edit: actually your wrong, how could he cut the same horn off twice? The second was just part of izanami. The trigger was the crow clone. Which then put his horn back, allowing it to be cut.
