if this guy was confident from the get go, he wouldn't have to draw determination from it increasing. BZ had been combating Mei and multiple others for 20~ish chapters(no matter the method, even Zabazu hid in mist) so what makes you think Kakashi or Zabuza could compete.

And how would Kakashi or Zabuza compete? Zabuza’s water style water dragon is on the same level as Kisame and Kakashi copies that jutsu while using it against Kisame a few chapters later.
