Well i mean then Shusui's genjutsu would then be miles about this as it is easier to catch people with and it is much more powerful. Say shikamaru catches itachi what is he really gonna do, Have them both punch eachother in the face? but i mean i think Sharingan's genjutsu is much more dangerous and easier to get caught by.

Well...they work in diferent situations but with sharingan if one doesn't look into your eyes it wont work while in shadow technique you catch them anyway as lond as you create shadow...
If Shikamaru catches itachi he can make him move into the sea and drown,he can also make him knock his head around and eventually die...
I dunno I think strategically used its very effective....
