Also, can Itachi turn into crows when you aren't under his doujutsu? I'm thinking that it's possible that Page 13, bottom left corner is game, set, match in favor of Itachi.

okay when kabuto is not in sage mode he does not have any legs he is half snake half man. show in the lastest anime episode were he captured yamato. we see his actual body without his cloak on. now when he entered sage mode he grew a pair of legs so the snake was moved to a different place. also that snake helps out his sensing abilities .. sasuke mention something about that (dr. snakes) in the previous chapter

i think the crows could be used as a ninjutsu aswell as a genjutsu. and it makes sense if it were a genjutsu cuz he was stabbed and turned into crows and it did show kabuto looking into the mangekyou even if his eyes were tinted doesnt matter. but im not sure if itachi can keep him in genjutsu cuz he has natures charka interfering with his own so it will snap him out of it but well see. and as far as the snake coming out his stomach or back it really does not matter cuz it used for his sensor abilities doesnt matter were it is

Blame Kishi for the lack of an explanation with the crows, but I was trippin off Itachi's Izanagi Genjutsu, when he supposedly gave Naruto a crow in Genjutsu, but he had to physically amaterasu the damn thing, so my explanation is either plot-hole, or Itachi unknowingly used Izanagi to turn fantasy into reality, but I'll go with the former

and on topic, I think Kishi is trying to be funny, the snake in the front is very phallic

It was probably a crow shadow clone. and The snake was on his stomach because kishi said so.

Its for sage mode just like jiraiya's shoulder toads. We have seen his snake sense naruto's chakra inside turtle island, this is a sage stomach snake.

Kabuto really is a gross character. He's worse than Orochimaru and that really says something. Not to mention the guy's an insane fruit loop.
