@Bolded ????: Well, as you said, you will get glass if you combine it with fire, mud, if you combine it with water/oil and an sandstorm if you combine it with wind. And you're wrong on the lightning part, sand is weak to lightning (check Sasuke VS. Gaara, chuunin exams.What is Sand?
Sand is a tool used by mostly ninja's originating from Sunagakure. Gaara is a ninja who was granted the ability to manipulate sand, due to being the host to the one tail. Due to its properties sand can be used to attack swiftly in small quantities and used for a large, dense defensive wall. It can also be used to hold someone or something in place.
What are its weaknesses/strengths
Sand has its strengths and weaknesses. For example, Sand is weak against fire, due to it turning to glass. Sand is also weak against water, due to the water weighing down sand resulting in the sand being hard to manipulate. Oil is also sands weakness having the same effect as water.
For its strengths I would say sand is strong against lightning due to sand being composed of wind and earth release, meaning the wind could negate the current of the lightning.
Known users that specialize in Sand from the anime/manga.
Ninja's that were shown using sand were Gaara, Kankurō, 4th Kazekage and 3rd Kazekage.
What Element do you get if you combine it with one of the five basic elements?

Brief description of how you perform the technique;

How can the technique be used in battle (combos with other moves/skils, creative use, etc);

Limitations of the technique;

How to counter the technique;
Good. Remember that you're Gaara (obviously) so the second technique is the most common to that character, so use it often. It's a good technique to protect you against tools and projectiles and small or weak technique's, the technique is also handy to assist you while getting attacked by making a slight sand snake that can be used to assist you to a certain location (upwards, to the right or left or to the front)
- Brief description of how you perform the technique; I begin by manipulating the sand in my gourd causing it to seep out from it. Once ready, I manipulate the sand causing it to gather together in a small orb. I use shape manipulation on the sand causing it to transform into a eye. The eye is connected to my eye. I make sure the eye that is connected to my optic nerve is closed for the jutsu to work.
- How can the technique be used in battle (combos with other moves/skils, creative use, etc); If there is a nearby tree, I would put the eye on it allowing me to see more of the terrain due to its height.
- Limitations of the technique; Eye must remain closed. 20/20 vison
- How to counter the technique; Make it rain making it hard for the sand to gather and form,or simply perform a wide range water jutsu.
- Brief description of how you perform the technique; I begin by channeling my chakra into the sand allowing me to manipulate it. I create small waves of sand that attack the chest and gut of my opponents, dealing some minor damage such as bruising. I then manipulate the sand to be used as a shield, deflecting thrown projectiles.
- How can the technique be used in battle (combos with other moves/skils, creative use, etc); I would use this jutsu with a wind technique creating a sand storm, dealing damage to the opponent, while creating a distraction preventing the user from opening their eyes. I would also use this jutsu to clog up small sources of water, preventing them from using it as a water source. I would also use it to clog up machines such as puppets, preventing the mechanisms to spin.
- Limitations of the technique;Well this jutsu only reaches short range, and can only use small amounts of sand.
- How to counter the technique; I would counter this jutsu, by simply using a large scale wind attack, blowing the sand along with the wind back at the user.
