His base form was able to fight against Beerus after he absorbed SSG. Additionally he was able to fight on par with Googeta who tanked hits from ssj3 Gotenks in his base.

Well, db super has massive inconsistencies regarding power levels. If we go by current arc, Goku's and Vegeta's base form is no way god level as they said during rof arc. Their base form is normal now, so Buu kills him if he's in base. He obviously stomps in SS blue tho.

If we go with the manga, both goku and vegeta could probably take down buu with ssj 2.
