It's been ten years since SpongeBob SquarePants made his big screen debut with the aptly titled SpongeBob SquarePants Movie. But you can get a look at his new movie makeover in the promotional poster Paramount Pictures dropped today.​

I would say it depends on which spongebob. Spongebob was just fine, and even great, till sometime after the movie. Then they just began changing the characters.

Spongebob originally was a stupid idiot.
Patrick originally was as dumb as a rock.
Squidward, was originally just really really grumpy.
Mr Krabs was originally just really really greedy.
And plankton was originally just really really diobolical.

Since then last I saw, they all just are kinda blended together. They are not nearly as distinct as they were before.
