By that, I mean, who would you have rather had die? Is there anyone else who would have had a huge affect on Naruto like Neji did? The only people I can think of are Kakashi.

Shino or Tenten, never really liked them much. And they are pretty useless at this point. The war seems to have evolved into a battle of jinchuuriki, kekkai genkai/touta and exceptionally special skills.
Neji was my fourth favourite character, after Gaara, Naruto and Shikamaru. So I'm mad about him dying.

I was hoping Hiashi....he had just said you will see people die, and Neji commented on dying before their children. Hiashi could've had this moment to apologize for his rough treatment of Hinata during her childhood!
K11 wise Kiba would've been the only other candidate for this sacrifice....Hinata's teammate and cocky like Naruto!
