[SPOILER][/SPOILER] Oonoki and Muu vs. Madara

Remember that flashback and convo between Madara and Oonoki? Well I'd like to know one thing about that?
Was Madara still with the leaf at this point or had he already been ostracized?
Although he says "you will now answer to Konoha" and "there is no more allaiance" I'm sure Hashi didn't give him permission to do that and he was by himself.
So, was he trying to start a war then? Could this incident be how one of the Great Ninja Wars started? perhaps the one one that resulted in Hashi's death?
(If he died in war at all?
I hear alot of people say this but don't remember reading or seeing that stated as a fact in Manga or anime, hm?)

Madara was still part of Konoha and it was just founded and the hokage was not chosen yet, so Hashi didnt had to say a lot about this. Also there have been so many wars in Naruto that you cant say which was was the one in which Hashirama died.
