Was Gai's father responsible for the death, or most of the deaths of the previous mist swordsmen?
Opinions? Did they survive and manage to escape? Or did they eventually end up killing him? What do you think happened on that fateful day? Also, I belive that upon Gai's death, Kakashi will finally remove his mask out of respect maybe.

If there was ever going to be a time, it's either during Gai's death or his own. Maybe Kakashi shows his face to Gai--off-screen and to Naruto/Sasuke/Sakura, before he dies, for the readers to see.

probably Naruto's situation, still a Genin also, however Naruto seems to actively pursue the highest rank

Presumably he didn't let anybody know that he could open the gates / Never used them against anybody during the Chunnin exams.

And thats actually a very interesting point about taking off his mask after the death of Gai. Kishi stated that he wanted to reveal Kakashi's face at some point before the end of the series, yet he was unsure of how to do it. I think now would be a great opportunity for him to do so.

Being a Chunin or Jounin is not abt power as shower in da Chunin exams. It's abt Brains, tactics and being able to lead a team.

He only learned the technique after 20 years of training. It was probably his only technique as well.
