In the anime, a short while after the Five Kage Summit,[34] Kabuto Yakushi scrounged some of Hidan's DNA from the Nara Clan Forest. Not long after the massacre of the Tonika villagers, Kabuto confronted Naruto Uzumaki and Sakura Haruno who were investigating the incident. Kabuto then uses the The Hole's waters to have his regenerative snakes create a new Hidan that he took control of with a seal tag. The newly-formed Hidan was then sent into battle against Team Kakashi on Kabuto's orders with the original Hidan's scythe which was also salvaged.[35] After a short fight, Kabuto retreats, having a snake ingest the Hidan clone to transport him away. Later, Hidan's body was resting while Kabuto made adjustments to the technique.[36]
