Hello all, I have an theory that 'd love to share with all you wonderful NarutoBase members. Let's get started shall we?
This is our subject of interest today, Spiral Zetsu. After Yamato's reveal as being the one person inside Spiral Zetsu, many people probably thought any mystery behind him was over. Well guess what, it's not. The new chapter released answered some questions, but gave rise to a whole new one. If the Zetsus were created by wrapping people with the Shinju's body/dna, why is Spiral Zetsu completely hollow and doesn't host anything inside? My answer to this is only an educated guess, but is what I hope to use to deduce his loyalty. I believe that Spiral Zetsu is completely unique among Zetsu, as only he has been shown to have the ability to wrap around completely and support his wearer. Since he's completely hollow, I doubt he's made from any human's body, unlike White Zetsus. Rather, I think he was made from pure Senju/Juubi DNA by itself, and therefore had no previous ingrained personality other than his own.
Now why would Madara create an being who's powers seem to lie off of wrapping around and supporting it's wearer, but unlike Black Zetsu, has no ability to actually control said wearer (Yamato was probably still under Obito's genjutsu, not being mind controlled by Spiral Zetsu)? I believe it was to support Obito, his successor, in progressing with his plans. We already know how manipulative and cunning Madara is, so it's not that far of a stretch to say he might have planned that he would gain an successor and to create an tool for this successor to utilize.
Like I said before, Spiral Zetsu, since he was not built off of an preexisting human, had no personality other than his own. But, Zetsus were not made to have their own free will and personality, they are made to be soldiers. Therefore, it makes sense that Spiral Zetsu, who had no preexisting human, would take characteristics and become the soldier of the wearer he ingrains himself into. Evidence of this exists, as after Obito wears Spiral Zetsu he becomes more serious as time progresses, and during the battle between the alliance and Spiral he closely mirror's Obito's style of wear and personality, save for his obsession with poop, the last remnant of his original personality. Evidence also seems to point toward Obito and Spiral being on good terms, as Obito modeled his mask seemingly off of him.
It also could be true that, instead of coming to assist Madara, he came to protect Obito, who had only recently lost in battle. The reason he never showed up until earlier might be that he was kept as an secret last resort weapon of Obito's, in case Madara was revived and betrayed him or another incident like losing to alliance occured.
Further evidence of this is the fact that Spiral doesn't mention Madara even once after coming to the battlefield, and although he was on good terms with white Zetsu and used his telepathy ability to synchronize with his communication, he appears to have been surprised by fact that Zetsu was there in the first place, meaning that he might not always be in communication with the other Zetsus and could have missed out that the alliance is not going after Obito currently.
He also, at another point, states "Oh well, even if they get to him (Obito) it would be too late now" and starts to relax a bit, seemingly knowing when Obito is about to recover (he's literally only 3 chapters off, very plausible). He also dashes off after IT goes up, knowing there is no one to block from progressing towards Obito, and is probably going to try to heal him.
TLDR Version: His loyalty belongs to Obito.
Sorry if it might be an wall of text and a bit cluttered, or a bit unlikely, just remember that this is only an theory, not an fact. Feel free to build upon or attempt to prove wrong this theory. Thank you for reading.
