I'm still awake and slightly tipsy so I've decided after reading the new chapter to share my whacky theory with you all, because I don't recall seeing anything regarding this particular theory 'round here in recent times. Enjoy!
My theory is about the current storyline regarding the Shinobi Alliance + Edo Hiruzen vs. Spiral Zetsu wrapped around a mystery villain is this: SPOILERS INSIDE
But yep that's my theory. Probs insanely unrealistic but feel free to rip it to shreds/expand on it/ignore it. Just thought I'd contribute a possibly fresh idea. Thanks for reading :naruto:
My theory is about the current storyline regarding the Shinobi Alliance + Edo Hiruzen vs. Spiral Zetsu wrapped around a mystery villain is this: SPOILERS INSIDE
Danzo could be the one co-operating with spiral now after he finished-up with Obito, and could explain at least some of Spiral's absence since that period.
So imagine if Danzo had somehow left a wood-clone in his place after his battle with sasuke as a means of desperately escaping at the last minute, which neither Obito or Sasuke could discern at the time *some quote about only Madara being able to see through wood clones*. Turns out Danzo was secretly in cahoots with Madara all along as well in his quest for power, in the same way he turned to other villains throughout the series. Not the craziest, most infeasible thing to happen in the narutoverse thus far, surely?
Haven't got a WHOLE lot of evidence, just a bit of a hunch I suppose. All I can think of is that may support this claim is this:
1) Spiral's eye hole is on the same side as Danzo's shanringan.
2) This new villain it turns out is indeed Spiral Zetsu wrapped-around a human and not just an empty Spiral Zetsu as some thought, almost certainly male (knowing Kishi's lack of important female characters), and has dark short hair.
3) Additionally it could explain the mystery villain's use of wood-release techniques, which we've seen be augmented as a power-up through Spiral's co-operation with Obito in the past.
4) Apparently this new villain is someone that Orochimaru possibly knew or recognised, we all know they worked together in the past.
5) This villain is shown to be working with Madara, suggested through Madara's interest in "the other battlefield" when talking to White Zetsu.
6) Just in general how many possibly relevant/returning characters could this new villain be that fit in with all these descriptives and could still slot in with the crazy storyline?? Uses wood release, has an important right eye, knows Orochimaru, has feasibly plotted with Madara, hasn't been around since this whole war really kicked off etc.
7) We know Danzo is super power-hungry, maybe he plans to use and eventually betraying Madara for his own gain once they've finally succeeded. Good luck to him with that I guess.
8) It'd also just be super convenient since he looks to be in for his final/major battle with none-other than Hiruzen. Slight plot relevance!!! Which also conveniently enough gives Kishi a chance to display Hiruzen's often hyped abilities and gives him a purpose/storyline for returning in this war like the other Hokages have had to a degree.
Or maybe it's just Spiral Zetsu controlling Danzo's dead body, which was probably the same place where White Zetsu found the rinnegan.
Or maybe it's just Yamato… the cheeky bugger.
