People choose him for times like this (Otherwise , Sakura was a better choice for sitting on a chair) ; If he doesn't go fight Kawaki to defend villagers , he's worse than Tsunade . (Tsunade did such thing in Pain's arc) ....
Plus , It's in Naruto's character to defend his friends ... He doesn't need to be hokage to defend his village ...
I can't tell 100% that Naruto is dead ; but I'm 100% sure that he's either dead or in a really bad condition (near death that he can't move)
