But Orochimaru being that good doesn't seem to work out. Unless he really loves the leaf village and its people, which i somewhat doubt.

Bigger threats to the village are Madara and Obito who can use Infinite Tsukyomi any moment and take over the village, so Orochimaru is allowing the Hokages to finish Madara and Obito first, then worry about his own plans.

But question Arise.

Question : In both circumstances, why is Orochimaru wasting too much time allowing Madara and Juubi to finish everything and take over completely?
Answer : He is underestimating Madara and Obito / Overestimating Naruto and the others.
Answer : He knows how to not get caught in the Infinite Tsukyomi / Or Simply knows how to break free of it.

Orochimaru allowing Hokages to defeat Madara and Obito, because Orochimaru alone can't defeat highly skilled Sharingan users. After which he may change sides and use the Hokages to fight against Naruto and Sasuke.

That is when we might get to see Naruto&Sasuke combining their strengths in a fight to defeat Orochimaru.
