"Here's one, Rentaro."

Unraveling the basic ninjutsu scroll, Souji reveals a simple technique:

(Gokan Sakusou) - 5 Senses Confusion Disorder

Rank:E
Type:Supplementary
Range:Short
Chakra Cost:N/A
Damage Points:N/A
The user throws an explosive kunai at their target and the mist spreads threw the air. This jutsu causes the opponent to be hit by attacks even though they think they dodged it or countered it.This effect lasts for 2 turns.

"At this point... you'd probably be trolling your opponent. Not only would their sense of direction be messed up, but they wouldn't be able to dodge jutsus even if they believed they did! Misdirection and deception... two major shinobi tenets. There are other examples as well... going over them would take hours upon hours."

"This next genjutsu is really simple. It's used for interrogation, but it only works on shinobi two ranks lower and below from you, so it's practically useless in a fight."

"I only have one question here: what rank would your opponent need to be for this to work, maximum? For example... I'm an unofficial Sage, so two ranks lower goes Kage, then Sannin. So I could only affect up to Sannin rank opponents. How about you, Rentaro?"

( Genjutsu: Jinmon ) - Illusion Technique: Interrogation
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost:15
Damage Points:30
Description: The user of this technique, upon casting on a stationary opponent with physical contact with them, is able to convince the enemy to give away information. However, this will only work on ninja two ranks lower and below than the caster.

(Happy New Year!)

If you mean if you could effect me, then yes as the technique works on people two ranks and below. If you meant which ranks I could effect, it would be chuunin and below, so this technique might not be very ideal for me to use until I become a higher rank.

Question: I know that in the RP, Sage is the highest rank in terms of chakra and health except for the one person who's classified as "Grim" in the RP, but say if I was in post count a Grim though I had Sage chakra and health and I used it on a Sage (or whatever is 2 ranks below Grim), would that work, or would it be based off of me being a Sage in terms of the RP?

Answering your question: If you're a Grim, you have Grim health and chakra. You can't affect Sage ranked users (unofficial or official Sages), only up to Kage ranked fighters.

"This one's simple. You cast an illusion where your opponent sees a large fireball falling from the sky."

"I can think of a simple combination jutsu that might prove detrimental to the opponent... which I'll share after you tell me how would you personally use the technique."

( Genjutsu: Jigoku Gouka ) - Illusion Technique: Hell Fire
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 15
Damage Points:N/A
Description: The user casts an illusion where the opponent sees a huge ball of fire descending from the sky and enveloping its target.

Grim chakra and health is only given to that first guy who achieved the rank of grim btw.

This is indeed an interesting technique. I think that a deadly combination would be using this genjutsu first and then Earth Release: Earth and Stone Bamboo Shoot Technique. A common way to avoid that doton technique is to go upwards, but if the opponent thinks that a giant fireball is nearing them from above, they might not want to avoid the technique that way. The opponent might not even notice the doton technique until it has done it's damage to them as the opponent would most likely be looking up, distracted by the fireball. Swamp of the underworld in combination with this could be fatal as well. Using some sort of fire technique in combination with this to make the opponent feel heat could work as well.

Oh really? I've seen Nathan using Grim level chakra and health. Hm. You're probably right though, sorry about that!

"Yes, perfect! They would logically counter with water if they didn't see it was an illusion. Using Earth would be doubly effective. Good insights, Rentaro."

"Alright, time for the last C-rank! Here, you create an illusionary clone that charges, jumps, and explodes in a cherry blossom petal dance. It obstructs vision and leaves your opponent open to an attack."

"Like before, give me some combat situations and follow-up jutsus you'd use."

( Genjutsu: Kasumi no Jutsu ) - Illusion Technique: Mist Technique
Rank: C
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra cost: 15
Damage points: N/A
Description: The user creates an illusionary clone that charges towards the enemy, jumps, then explodes in a cloud of cherry blossom petals which results in confusing the opponent and obscuring their vision, leaving them open for attack.

Don't worry about it. I've only heard it's that way. ^^
________________________

I didn't even think about them using a suiton jutsu to counter as I knew from the get-go it's a genjutsu because we are just analyzing it, but if it were coming at me I could very easily waste a move.

Some combinations with this would be sending in a real shadow clone along with these so that it blends in and can do real damage as they all advance. If the opponent can reason that this is a genjutsu without breaking it, they won't realize that there is a clone which can actually do damage in the mix. Throwing kunai with bomb tags would go along with this well too. They would phase through the many clones as they are but illusions, and if timed right could appear just before the clones reached the opponent, surprising them, damaging them greatly, and then confusing them. It's like a buy one, get three free deal!!! Anyways, appearing behind the opponent whilst they are focusing on the clones is a good idea too. "Hiding Like a Mole" can effectively and easily serve this purpose. One could layer "Hell Viewing" after the clones explode into cherry blossoms so that the opponent sees their most feared object/person a moment after the cherry blossom explosion (also using the cherry blossoms as the initial swirling of leaves in "Hell Viewing") which can buy the user more time.

"Now for the B-ranks! The first one is just like the very first illusion we learned, except it's double layered. That means if your targets breaks out of the first layer, the second one will take effect."

"To test your understanding, I want you to cast the illusion on me and change the surroundings to a point where it would be harder for me to discern that it was a genjutsu."

(Magen: Nijū Kokoni Arazu no Jutsu) Demonic Illusion: Double False Surroundings Technique
Type: Supplmentary
Rank: B-Rank
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra: 20
Damage: N/A
Description:
The user will do a sequence of 3 handseals, putting his opponents under a double layered Genjutsu. The user is able to create false surroundings to fool his targets, much like the simpler version of the technique. However, the illusion is in fact layered. If the opponent manages to release the first one, he will then feel the effects of the second illusion. If, for example, the first illusion is that of a desert and the second that of a forest, upon releasing the first one, the opponent will see the desert fade away while the forest appears around him, making him think he dispelled the illusion while in essence he is still caught in one. Each illusion is equivalent to C-Rank and both are casted at the same time. While normal releases will release only one illusion at a time, a strong enough pain or an external source of chakra can dispel both at the same time.

OOC: Would you like me to refer to you as Onoki, Sasori, or continue on as Souji?
_________________________

Here goes, then. Rentaro said this as he began to weave three hand seals while focusing chakra into Souji's brain. Thinking about what kind of environments he wanted to cast, he paused for a moment. Deciding on the first layer, Rentaro focused on the bit of his chakra which was already in his sensei's brain to cause him to see a desert all around him. For an extra touch, Rentaro made it so that a sandstorm was occurring in the illusion. Having decided on the next layer whilst casting the first, Rentaro created a large crevice in the earth which Souji would be standing at the bottom of. From his point of view, he would be somewhere around a mile from the surface of the earth.

Aaaaaand, done.

(I'm still RPing as Souji. Been sick, apologies u_u )

After applying the appropriate amount of pain to break out of the first layer (not metagaming, promise, we both anticipated the illusion lol), Souji found himself transitioning from a desert into a large hole. He broke out of the second one soon after.

"That was interesting... quite scary, actually. While that was quite good, it's also good to note that the false-surroundings genjutsu is one of subtlety as well. As a tip, try to make as few changes to the existing environment so your opponent doesn't suspect it's an illusion, but add something so they'll mistakenly counter something that isn't there."

"Next, use your sword and swing it back and forth, locking a target in a gen where they hallucinate seeing hundreds of sword-swinging arms. This is a very conspicuous genjutsu and therefore not that hard to discern, in my opinion."

( Konoha-Ryū: Yanagi ) - Leaf Ninja Art: Willow
Rank: B
Type: Offensive
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: 35
Description: The user waves their sword back and forth, which when seen by the target locks them in a genjutsu which causes them to hallucinate multiple waving arms. The movement resembles that of a willow tree blowing in the wind. With the enemy off guard, the user is free to cut them down.

Rentaro watched as Souji stood there static for a moment, but then broke out of the genjutsu and began to speak. He took a few mental notes on the points which Souji talked about.

Alright, I'll try to make the effects less subtle next time I use this then.

After Souji explained that this text technique required a sword, he brought his right arm around his body and unsheathed his katana. Once he did so, Rentaro molded doton chakra in his mouth to create a stone. He spit the stone onto the ground, and it grew into a full sized clone. Rentaro waved his katana back and forth in front of the clone while sending chakra into his brain. A moment later, the clone saw the arms and swords multiply, all waving back and forth. The clone knew that this had to be a genjutsu because there was no way that Rentaro had that many arms. The clone reached into his ninja pouch and pulled out a kunai, holding it in his right hand. Very slowly and carefully, he made a cut on his right calf, breaking him out of the genjutsu.

"Here, you'll form four handseals, causing yourself to disappear from view. Then, your target is bound by illusionary vines. Then, a bean pod appears with you in it, allowing you to quickly and suddenly strike. However, note that in reality, your target is simply rendered immobile."

( Genjutsu: Ingemame Ketsugō Sakkaku ) - Illusion Technique String Bean Binding Illusion
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: N/A
Description: Similar to Illusion Technique: Tree Binding Death, the user will do the Dog → Hare → Snake → Ram hand seals and trigger an illusion where the user first disappears, while the target sees several bean vines growing from the ground around and beneath him. These vines bind the target body, lifting them into the air. Then a bean pod rises from the ground to reveal the user, ready to strike. In reality, the opponent is immobilized by the illusion, allowing the user to strike.

Dog, Hare, Snake, Ram. Rentaro said out loud the handseals which he was forming. From Souji's view, Rentaro disappeared from sight completely. He was under the genjutsu. Souji would then see vines burst out from the ground below him and wrap around him, restricting his movements completely. The vines rose up higher and higher, bringing Souji with them. A bean pod burst out of the ground in front of and below Souji, and it would rise upwards to his level. The top of the bean pod would then peel open to reveal Rentaro, standing there.

In reality, Rentaro would be waiting in front of Souji for him to escape the genjutsu.

Souji meta-games out of the Genjutsu, because this is training and that's totally legal U_U

(forgive me ;_; )

"See, to figure out that illusion, you'd need to be aware of the senses affected. You know that bean pods and vines may have a distinct smell or feel... if you don't experience those sensations, you should be able to figure out that those vines are fake."

"Let's do a concrete example. Heads up!"

Trapping Rentaro in the next illusion, Souji caused a large flower bud to appear around his student, which would explode, causing stress upon the mind that would translate into real damage on his physical self.

How would Rentaro figure out that the flower was an illusion? Was there any hope? Find out on the next episode of DBZ!

( Magen: Hanarasui ) - Demonic Illusion: Flower Head Death
Rank: B
Type: Offensive/Supplementary
Range: Short- Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: 40 due to stress on the mind
Description: The user will trap the target within an illusion where the opponent appears to be trapped in a large flower bud which then explodes. The opponent is made to believe that an explosion actually occurred and collapses, believing himself to be injured. The resulting stress on his mind causes damage.

xD lmao
________

Rentaro took a mental note of the examples which Souji gave him on how to break out from the genjutsu. Jumping straight into the next one, Souji said to him,
"Let's do a concrete example. Heads up!"
and plunged him into the genjutsu. Rentaro immediately noticed that it looked like he was trapped inside something (though the picture looks like the target is just standing on it.) From the look of it, this was part of a flower. Inhaling through his nose, he smelt nothing. He didn't smell a flower. Deciding that this was enough evidence, Rentaro raised his left hand and smacked his left cheek with it, breaking the genjutsu.

I like the "dragon ball narrator" addition there, Souji. Rentaro said, smiling.

"... Dragon Ball? Sounds like there's a lot of screaming and powerups in a universe like that. Not that we're any different, though..." Souji shrugged ever so ironically.

Unraveling part of the B-rank scroll, Souji presented more B-rank illusions.

( Magen: Jubaku Satsu ) - Demonic Illusion: Tree Binding Death
Rank: B
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes five handseals, and appears to dissolve into a mist. Once they stealthily approach the target and get within short-range, the opponent feels completely immobilized, and believes they have been bound by a fast-growing tree and are unable to move. The user then appears as if they emerge from the tree to attack the target. In reality, the target is immobilized, allowing the user to strike or interrogate them.

( Genjutsu: Oshitsubusu Hebi Kubire ) - Illusion Technique: Crushing Snake Constriction
Rank: B
Type: Offensive, Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 20
Damage points: 40
Description: The user puts the opponent into a genjutsu which has snakes appear beneath the opponent to constrict them and with the users command, they crush the opponent. In reality, the opponent is immobilized and takes damage due to the stress on his mind.

"For this exercise, simply try and find an image that depicts the usage of the illusion, and tell me, in your own words, how they work. Then, if you have questions or insights or whatever else, let me know."

Would Rentaro find the images? Why was Souji narrating in his head as if this were some kind of... game? Find out in the next reply!

Tree binding death:
You must be registered for see images

Crushing Snake Constriction:
Not sure if this
You must be registered for see images

or this
You must be registered for see images

Basically the first technique sends the opponent into a genjutstu where they think that their opponent disappeared. They then think that they are bound to a tree, which the caster can come out of and attack (in the gen of course). In reality, no one moved and the opponent is just left standing there. This isn't something I can see myself using that often because many people would be able to reason their way out of it due to them knowing that I don't possess wood release. THOUGH if I did then this would be a great technique to use. Crushing Snake Constriction makes it so the opponent believes snakes emerge from the ground below them and bind them, crushing them. Though in reality nothing happens besides the opponent taking damage due to mental stress. If I was a signer of the snake contract and my opponent knew that, this would be good to use. It's not bad even if I haven't signed it, but it makes it much more believable if I had.

Would Souji like Rentaro's response? Which picture for Crushing Snake Constriction was correct? Will LC ever reply faster? FIND OUT NEXT TIME! On Dragon Ball Z!!!

It seems pretty good to me. A genjutsu which has the ability to actually paralyze someone is great. I can provide a moment of cover to obstruct your opponent's view to do something else like prepare for a kirin or get behind them, etc. I can see myself using this often(ish). What would be a way to avoid being paralyzed by it, because it seems as soon as it begins the opponent is paralyzed.

"The paralysis occurs only when all the flowers are summoned; if you can deduce that it's an illusion before that happens, you need only break out of it and can therefore avoid the effects."

"Because I'm awesome, I'll give you the last three A-ranks in one nice package here. Sound good? I've seen and heard enough; you're good as it is. Take everything you've learned and apply them to these techniques. Tell me, in your own words, how they work, what they do, what senses they affect, and how you would personally deduce your way out of these illusions."

Sitting down and crossing his legs while stretching, Souji waited for the epic culmination of this training session.

( Magen: Chō Shinka ) - Demonic Illusion: Butterfly Evolution
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary/Offensive
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: 60
Description: The user makes one handseal, placing the opponent in a genjutsu. The user then tosses a large number of explosive tags at the opponent. To the opponent, it looks as if they are countless butterflies. The opponent then believes they are sinking into the ground, in reality making them immobilized; this allows the user to place one final exploding tag on their forehead before detonating all the tags simultaneously.

( Nehan Shōja no Jutsu ) - Temple of Nirvana Technique
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes one handseal, placing all the targets in the area under an illusion where feathers appear to fall from the sky. This slowly puts the opponents to sleep after one turn.

( Kokuangyo no Jutsu ) - Bringer-of-Darkness Technique
Rank: A
Type: Supplementary
Range: Short-Mid
Chakra Cost: 30
Damage Points: N/A
Description: The user makes one handseal, causing the opponent to believe they have been trapped in a world of infinite darkness, where their sense of sight is useless. It is capable of affecting multiple targets within range. However, it does not negate their other senses.

Alright, the first technique creates a situation where the one under the genjutsu thinks that they see numerous butterflies approaching them, and they then soon believe they sink into the ground. In reality, the caster would throw paper tags at the opponent and then place one on their head, creating a massive explosion. I feel like using explosive kunai might be more effective, and I may end up doing that instead (though I'm not sure if it would be illegal in the RP to alter the technique like that or not). The senses which are messed with here are sight and possibly touch. The opponent would think they see butterflies instead of paper tags and would see themselves sinking into the ground instead of just standing there. I'm not sure if they would feel themselves sinking or not. To escape this genjutsu, I could realize it was fake if a) I had already seen both kinds of the opponent's summoning animals and neither were butterfiels, or b) if the sense "touch" isn't effected I could realize that I wasn't feeling myself sinking downwards. What would be a better way to escape this one?

For this next technique, the user makes a handseal which places other people/ summons in the area in a genjutsu where they see feathers fall from the sky and soon after fall asleep. This genjutsu messes with the sense "sight", and then afterwards forcefully puts the one trapped in it to sleep. To escape this one, I would likely realize that the number of feathers falling down are absurd. I would see in most situations no flock of birds above, and even if I did the number of feathers falling would still be far to many. I would then use "kai" or some other means to escape the genjutsu.

This next technique causes opponents to believe they were flung into a world of infinite darkness. This technique effects the sense "sight". To escape it, I would likely be thinking about above all else what the handseal which my opponent formed lead to. Though raiton techniques could potentially blind me, I would see a sudden flash before losing my sight. Because there was no flash or sound of some sort of technique, I would realize that the handseal which the opponent formed casted the darkness upon me and was a genjutsu.

As Souji blinked, Rentaro formed a single handseal and sent him into a world of darkness!
