It was going to happen sooner or later anyways. But tbh I don't think the Kyubi chakra enhanced his Susanoo. It could've been from the jealousy he felt from seeing how strong Naruto got. It's been shown that he can channel intense emotion into his Susanoo to improve it as seen at the Kage summit. Maybe he's had it since he got the EMS, but we've just never seen it until now, who knows?

Either way he's still not on Naruto's level yet.
