I know what you mean. I was thinking it would be more of a surprise too. I think he wanted to use Hashi's SM powers for a bigger advantage at first to do what he just did this chapter but realized it was easier to let Obito get beaten so he took the easy way out. But yeah, it was somewhat predictable.
