I don't get it. How can people still not believe that this is yet another sign of God's existence? :hmm:

If it's that far away, isn't it possible that it might no longer be there?

I don't really see the relevance to an argument for or against the existence of God.

Because it can be seen before our eyes as a sign that it has been created. Did you believe that it had existed before you saw it? If not, then you have become aware now as it appears before your eyes. If you did, but had doubts, then those doubts are also removed now as it is present before your eyes. Do you also have doubt of God's existence? It could be that you will become aware and those doubts will be removed if He appears before your eyes. Obviously that will not happen in this World but you have to think ahead and believe that it will happen in the next World. By accepting this conviction, it is best to live life while showing gratitude to the one who maintains all forms of life and the principles consisting within it. There is no flaw in his creation except by His will. Even that, is only so that the beings without flaw may understand that the same could happen to them if He wills it. This is the truly correct conviction. On the other hand, believing that everything is occurring through some random process and by chance(or whatever you wonna call it), is the sort of conviction that is illogical and unconscionable.

Sorry for the block of text. :yeah:

just because something exists is not proof enough that it was created by god

Because oil is really going to be a concern when we can launch ourselves 1,400 lightyears.

Generally speaking, by time we have the capability to traverse interstellar space, it will be just as easy to build deep space colonies as it will to search out planets that we could colonize. The time and energy invested in constructing a known quantity is less than the time and energy spent investigating entirely unknown quantities.

That won't stop us from looking to colonize other worlds - but the reality is that anything that is inhabited by a sentient species is not worth even the risk of announcing our presence to (particularly if they have comparable space travel capabilities). If a planet is inhabited - just move on and continue building colonies.

I imagine there will still be wars in space - but they will most likely be 'civil wars' fought amongst a species rather than two species fighting each other. Humans will have plenty of reason to fight each other over territory we occupy - claims to asteroid mining, specific holdings on a colony, etc. For a species that has no vested interest in a territory they happen across and find to be occupied - it would be quite the rare instance for there to be a resource worth going against an established system's industry to acquire.

While advancement is difficult to predict - I expect we will be performing experiments on 'jump drives' within the next 100 years. IE - a device that allows a ship to simply shift into a position many lightyears away (though I imagine the first experiments will be on the order of a few thousand kilometers).

Of course, people 30 years ago were predicting flying cars and other such things by now - so it's kind of hard to predict which direction things will go.

Because my comment was to meant to be taken in literal sense and seriously. ..

And here you go-- people already planning colonization and wars...

That's a hell of a stretch of logic.

While I don't entirely disagree - the same applies to the door of my apartment. Basically - you are arguing that the existence of the world supports the idea that a divine will has acted upon our existence.

This reduces to a philosophical argument regarding the nature of the universe that is equally applicable to new space discoveries and mundane observations of the world around us.

Everywhere I look - I see God's creation. But this is a philosophical outlook. Whether it's the discovery of a new semiconductor phenomena, the discovery of a new planet, or simply marveling at the fur patterns of my cat - I see God's creation.

Other people see no reason to assign order or cause to the universe and its structure.

Soon Star Wars after like 1000 years when someone discovers a way to travel at the speed of light, or even finds a way to prove that you can be faster than the speed of light. Anyway, saddest part is it would be impossible to be on the same Internet because that is not how the Internet works, in other words if you live on another planet you won't be able to see what we are discussing on Narutobase, Narutobase won't even exist on that planet :|

You misunderstand.

I was informing you of why your attempt at dry humor was quaint and a failure. Dry humor, to be successful, has to actually be witty.

And here you go-- people already planning colonization and wars...

It's a simple evaluation of the mathematical realities of civilizations in space.

No you misunderstood. It's called 'using limited words' to point out that the plans like colonizing or doing any other business there may not be feasible at all. It's simply too far. We don't even know whether the planet is rocky like ours or has water and air and an atmosphere.

I read about it few days ago. But just because it's similar, it doesn't mean much, really. Even if there's water, that doesn't guarantee life. And even if there is 'life', like bacteria, that doesn't guarantee advanced life forms and civilization. Not to mention it is 1400 light years away, so the image we are seeing about this planet is 1400 yrs old. And I don't know why some smartasses always feel the need to bring religion up. While at the same time complaining about crappy controversial topics...
