As myself and others noticed a while back, the shinju and the juubi seemingly separated into two entities. It looked as though the Juubi transformed into the Shinju, but when Obito was defeated, the alliance pulled the bijuus/juubi out of him and the Shinju remained. After that, Madara absorbed the bijuus and then the tree separately where it seems to be implied either it or Kaguya spoke to him. The current Shinju also doesn't seem to resemble the Shinju in the mural either. The one in the mural possessed a vast trunk and canopy while this one looks more like a century plant or a strangler made up of vines or roots and possessing that bud at the top.

Is it possible this isn't the senju but in fact Kaguya or Hagoromo's brother transformed into one or impersonating it and that the real Shinju is actually still the bijuus?
